As some of you may remember weve got flights booked for Dec, but no accomodation apart from the first few nights in a hotel.
We were thinking about camper van hire but its very expensive at that time of year, so weve had the idea of hiring a car (alot cheaper) and taking our tent. We may have to pay a bit extra for luggage allowance, but obviously it will be more economical to do this than hire a van.

Thing is, if we miss any grass/mud etc in cleaning it before we leave, will the lovely people at AKL remove said offending particles and give it back to us, or could they confiscate our beloved tent or even burn it? :eek

Am I getting in a flap over nothing? :uhoh
And has anyone any experience of living in a tent for three weeks with jet lag? :wah

Couldn't think of a better way to overcome jet lag than relaxing in a tent!!
Regarding specks of mud on tent, can't help you there :( Maybe some of our more camping friendly Kiwis can help you there :nice1

I brought a tent with me on my trip a few months ago. It was pretty clean, but not spotless.

Going through customs they asked if I had any used camping gear. I said yes, I have a tent. They took it back to the cleaning room and I got it back about 45 minutes later, cleaned and stuffed back in the storage bag. They were doing the same with hiking boots and other items. Other than a little extra time waiting at the airport, it really wasn't a big deal.

I never actually USED the tent on my trip so I can't comment on that end of things :)
