Hi all
First time posting here, so forgive me if I'm being an idiot :?
We've just submitted our EOI and are hoping for the best at the next sift. We've got 135 points if I've filled in the form correctly.
I only have a photocopy of my birth certificate and was wondering if this is likely to be a problem down the line if and when we're invited to apply for residence. Are originals required? I was born in Zambia and it will probably be a long shot to get a replacement.

i know if it is the NZQA, you have to submit the original docs. im not sure with the NZIS tho. anyways, it wouldnt hurt to have the originals handy...

Hi Tony
Welcome to the forum.
I think you will be ok if you get the copy certified by a solicitor or somebody of 'equal standing'.
It may be worth while hunting down an original copy though - just in case.

Thanks Diny and Jes
I've written off to the Registrar General in Lusaka to try to get hold of a replacement copy. Hopefully I'll hear something back. :hopeso
When we moved from the UK to Switzerland it wasn't an issue, but you never know.
Looking forward to finding out more info here. It seems to be a great forum.

Hi, Tony (ToadFish -- love that!!),
Please let me add my welcomes to the forum!! You really will find most of the answers to your questions here with a little searching, and no one cares if you just take the lazy person's way out (as I often do!) and just post a question without searching first. It's a wonderful group of folks with a great administrator and a great moderator as well. We're a lucky bunch -- not the least because we're all moving to NZ!!
Re your question about the original birth certificate: My understanding is that certified copies will almost always do, but NZIS always has the option of demanding (although I'm sure they'll do it nicely) to see an original. Sure as heck if you don't have an original, that's what they'll want to see.. so I think you're following a wise course of attempting to get an original just as soon as you can. With luck, they'll never ask for it -- but the only way to be sure is to have one!!
Best of luck, and looking forward to your questions/contributions/comments on the forum!!

Well, Rae, I'd been meaning to get around to it, but with flattery like that, you've shamed me into it. I'm sure you know what I mean. :angel ;)
