Hi Folks,

My first post on this forum but I've been here reading all of the useful articles and posts for many weeks now. I'm originally from Ireland but I live in France now and I'm want to move out to NZ which obviously involves moving my stuff out there as well.

Most of the companies and threads on this site mention many shipping companies but most of them seem to be only for moves from UK to NZ. So I was wondering if anyone has any experience of relocation companies that would do moves from France to NZ?

One thing I've noticed was alot of talk about 20ft containers. I've only got a 1 bedroom flat. So I don't have that much, so do relocation companies offer anything smaller than a 20ft container as I really doubt if I have enough stuff to fill it?

Also would you recommend putting electronically equipment in these containers? Or would you ship stuff like computers via UPS or DHL?

Is it a expensive/difficult to change French plugs with NZ plugs. France has 230 volt with 50 frequency which I believe is the same as NZ so I was hoping it was quite simple.

Sorry for the long post. Hope that I haven't annoyed anyone with posting so many questions. Just looking for advice from people who've do this sort of thing before.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers
Brendan

Cant help you with shipping from France Im afraid but some shipping compaines do allow you to share container space, so I dont think transporting a small amount would be a problem.
Where about in France are you? I love France :yes Probably the trips across to France is what we'll miss most about being in the UK! :no

The only thing I miss about the UK is France

Electronics Electrical stuff - all should work fine just change the plugs with the exception of TVs and maybe Videos, as French TV uses Secam which is a different broadcasting standard to Pal B used in NZ (or PAL A in the uK) Although lots of higher end European TVs have receivers capable of recieving all the above plus the American standard NTSC (Never the same color) You may be able to determine this buy lookingin the manual for your TV and Video or at the on screen set up menus.

Thanks JonSE for that information. Really useful stuff. I hadn't even thought about TV's not working in NZ...doh!

I guess though I could still use my TV, connected to say a french dvd player to watch dvds?

I mean the whole Secam/Pal B thing is only a problem when I want to connect the tv to a tv aerial?

Many thanks once again.

Cheers
Brendan
