Changes in immigrant investor category

Govt changes policy toward immigrants using investor category- current investment amount of $1 million will double

16 June 2005

The Government's changing its policy around immigrants using the investor category.

Currently, people wanting to use the policy to come to New Zealand must have $1 million dollars to invest.

It will now double and be transferred to a Kiwi Bank account before being held in infrastructure projects by the Government for five years.

Applicants must be under 54 years of age with at least five years' business experience.

The Department of Labour will also have the right to select candidates meeting the requirements, rather than the current passive acceptance.

Just read that on http://www.emigratenz.org/changes-investment-category.html :eek

Bit of a fright for us, but it seems we will get through on the old system. Don't think we would have got through on the new. :no

Doesn't look like it as I have a bro in UK so I'm not their only child. Gonna have to look into it again. :?

That is a real downer Moorf. I sincerely hope that they manage to find a way of living the dream.
The changes have upset a few people for sure. Jamie Smith reckons that it will benefit Australia since they have different criteria.

moorf,
Sorry the changes effect your parents but I am a bit confussed, I thought that the balance of family test was 'a greater or equal numer of children living in NZ' so if you only have 1 sibling, living in the UK or elsewhere they balance you out and your parents can still enter under the family quota, (small though that is).
If I have miss understood the balance of family test please someone let me know. We STILL haven't told family of our plans to move (wimps I know but my mum in particular it going to be a nightmare about it) and I was hoping to stem the inevitable flood of tears and tantrums by suggesting that they could come and join us at a later date if they wished. The new invester catigory rules them out as well.
OMG the thought of telling my mum we are going with no way of them joining us.... it's giving my palpitations already.
