Hi, all :D

Assuming when we get there (early Dec hopefully!! yay :clap ) and rent to start with, does anyone have an idea of costs of moving house in NZ, ie if / when we move all our stuff from a rental to wherever we actually buy?? :hopeso

Really can't help with the costs because don't know how you would go about it or how much stuff you would have, we would just overlap the properties by a week and hire a van and do it ourselves.
When we were in a similar situation years ago in Perth we did our packing in a system that was divided into 'things we need to have' and marked the boxes accordingly and 'things that could stay packed'. this way we had lifes essentials, like 4 plates, cups, kettle, cooking stuff, change of bedding etc and left the other stuff packed so when we moved it was simplified.

Dinnae - judging by the amount of 2nd hand cars with towbars and the number of people towing small trailers I reckon you could do it yourself!!!

Yeah, when we sold our house before we bought another one a few years ago, we packed just 6 of everything seperately, and set ourselves up in the dining room, lounge, and one bedroom of a rental, with our table and chairs and a bed. The rest we stacked in the other 2 bedrooms, beds on end etc. There you are, free storage!!!and all the time in the world to pick your permanent house. I wrote "Not wanted on voyage" on all the extra linen china boxes etc, thats what you call camping in a house.

We hired a van to collect some furniture we bought and I think it was about $60 for half a day. (Well, we talked them into letting us have it for the afternoon and overnight too so got a bit longer!)

Not too bad really......
