We went with John Masons, a sole use 20ft container (not completely full) without insurance it came to about £3000 and including all insurances we could buy was £4100.

Two people came from them and packed the entire house last Thursday, they started at 10:00 and they were finished at 15:00. On Friday they loaded the container in an hour between 09:00 and 10:00 (they were very professional and quick). So our stuff is on its way and will arrive in Wellington on the 29th July shortly after us on the 21st!

Cheers,

Chris.

Howdy Gang

Avalon - tried it on, I have 'lost' their quote
GB Liners - 20ft Sole - £3,100 (you pack non breakables) + 4 weeks FOC storage
GB Liners - 20ft Refer - £2,800 (you pack non breakables) + 4 weeks FOC storage
White & Co - 20ft Sole - £3,700 (they pack all) + 4 weeks FOC storage
White & Co - 20ft Refer - £2,880 (they pack all) + 4 weeks FOC storage - Going with this one

White's insurance is cheaper, but we may not take it anyway.

Cheers

Milliemoo, (nice website by the way!)

Due to the non-sale of our house and simply the timing of our adventure we are, as ever living month to month.

We are taking the view that Whites standard policy covers items up to £40 each, depending on their valuation. At the moment we are not really in a position to spend an extra £500 plus on insurance that we may never need.

After a lifetime in logistics - there will most definately be damages, but there is a trade off between recouping the value of a broken xbox against blowing half a grand. :?

We are committing ourselves to NZ and will have the rest of our lives to replace anything that may suffer. :nice1

Hope that makes sense. :cheers

And it always pays to be cheeky and trade movers off against competitors, if you aren't asking for too much they are always prepared to give a little.

Cheers

Milliemoo, (nice website by the way!)

Thanks!

It's very out of date unfortunately. We've got heaps of pics that people send us that Frodo just hasn't had the time to put on

re: Insurance.... you've always got to do what YOU think is best for YOUR circumstances. I think I'd have a nervous breakdown without insurance, but that's just me

Good luck with the move :P I'm very jealous as we won't be going out for good until Oct next year :?

does anyone know any website addresses for any of these companies??

it is so hard to make contact with them when i am at work all day!! (no before you as - i dont go out for lunch!)

my life is very cloak and dagger.

still trying to get our story straight about why the house is on the market - telling friends and colleagues it is bcoz we want to move out of Bradford to North Leeds, but it isnt what we would tell potential buyers is it!

So far we have had Brittania round, Andrew Porter and John Mason. Uo to now I was most impressed with the guy from John Mason as he gave us advice that no-one else did. Apparently don't put plastic bags in anything as the container crosses the equator the bags melt, this could have had dire consequences for my wedding dress if I hadn't been told.

The hint we were given about the plastic bags was to make sure that they all have big air holes in them. We weren't told anything abou them melting but we were told that without ventilation in them they can sweat and the contents can get mouldy.

Best rule of thumb is just to not use them at all I guess.

Hey Jo,

My wedding dress arrived just fine - it was in a zip up plastic dress holder thingy which has airholes all down the sides.

As Diny said, it's not so much that things melt (I think that's a bit of scaremongering there!) it's the condensation that's the killer. I know that our shippers (GB Liners) used a special "breathable" bubble wrap type of material for certain items of furniture / old items that needed to be wrapped. Ask your shipper, they may have materials you can use.
