Hi All,

This has been asked before, but I am unable to find the answer anywhere. I am trying to apply for an IRD number before leaving the UK. The IRD application form asks for an NZ address, what should we put here if we don't yet have one?

Thanks,

Mark. :P

We just put our UK address, and the numbers turned up about a month later.

Cool. You mean you don't have to actually be in country to do this? It would be super to have it already set up when the plane lands. I'm assuming you would need to have PR or somethin similar? And where can you get the application (online I hope)?

Good to know.

Thanks!

Susan

You need either a 2 year work visa or PR to get an IRD number.

You print the form off the web site, and stick it in the post with a photocopy of the visa. (can't remeber the address, but a google search will find it quickly)

You then need the IRD number to open a bank account from offshore.

Excellent jubjub, thanks! :clap

I downloaded the form last night and will get it in the mail as soon as I get our passports back from NZIS. I appreciate the info since I'd like to have as much set up as possible before I make the leap.

We have just set up our bank account (Kiwibank) from the UK with no IRD number. The IRD number is needed when they start adding Interest to the account but you can get the account set up in readiness.

For the IRD application I only needed to give a photocopy of the picture page in my passport. Haven't got the IRD number yet though, anyone know how long it takes to process?

Cheers,

Mark. :P

Have to disagree here ;)
We applied for our IRD numbers from the UK and it took only a couple of weeks to arrive. Jon did not have pr or any work visa, and he got one, also opened up our bank account without IRD number. :nice1

I know you can get it done in 24 hrs here in NZ - you could try using the numbers from the UK and see if they'll process it.
