Just a small snippet of info. Regarding blood tests and piercing for immigration purposes, you will be required ladies (and gents?!!) to have an extra blood test for hepatitis if you have been pierced before a certain date (we think sometime in the 90's). Now far from me to suggest that there are people out there who would bend the truth slightly to save themselves £20 for an extra test, it does bear thnking about, especially as my wife got stung for it today, and she got her ears pierced 22 years ago!! Now I would expcet the symptoms to have appeared by now, but I am a non medical person so I stand to be corrected on this if wrong!

Steve

You also have to have extra tests if you have a tattoo as I found out to my cost :( .

Hi Steve

How did this happen? Did the doc pick up on it?

The doctor asked Jan if she had any piercings or tattoos (sorry forgot to mention that one nessie coz it doesn't apply to Jan!)
He then stung her with the extra test charge :? Suppose it got to be done by the book, but a great rate of pay for 20 minutes work!!!
( I work it out as £390 an hour!! )
But at least it is done and dusted now, and hopefully all will be well. Sat in the waiting room and double checked the ITA again, just in case I missed anything - again.

Just off now to see if my photographs of tonights thunderstorm have worked!

Catch ya

Is this a new charge / med question??

Neither of us were asked to take additional blood tests - and that applies to both medicals as we had two, one in UK and one in NZ (as our first one ran out before we received our ITA).

Oh. May be we were 'lucky' then. At our meds on monday the doctor didn't ask and could clearly see my ears!

Or maybe he forgot.......

Guess this depends largely on which doc does your medical.

I have my ears pierced twice (both times done in the late 70s early 80s). I also have a tattoo.

He could clearly see that my ears were pierced but I had to show him my tattoo when he asked (it's out of sight and only usually gets displayed after copious amounts of gin).

I wasn't required to take any further tests - or if I was I certainly wasn't charged for them (as far as I remember anyway).

Luck of the draw I guess.

Hi Diny

Snap with my ears too, I may have even still been at school. GULP. But have no tattoos.

We just had the 'normal' bloods taken. Like you say it's the luck of the draw then.

I can live with that today... :clap

Hmmmm, luck of the draw I guess. I don't know if the rules have changed recently but the letter from the doctor had 3 blood tests listed.
1 Syphilis (I didn't want to put this on the subject in case I upset anybody!)
2 Hepatitis
3 AIDS/HIV - but this is only for medical types or anyone who may be at risk.

Maybe our doctor thought his Bentley could do with a valet, or maybe he was just being thorough :bobby

Anyway it's done, and that's that. Just been looking at my x-ray today, ooer missus, don't like the look of it, but that is just my untrained eye, I hope :laugh :laugh :laugh

This seems a tad over the top to me. Even if you test negative before going out there, there is nothing to stop you going and getting tats or piercings done once you arrive. The risk must be just as high in Nz as elsewhere I would have thought.
Just thinking back to Billy C and his recent tour, he visited a tattoo studio where they still use the old hammer and chisel method. OUCH!!
