After getting assurances from the estate agent that all was progressing smoothly, yesterday I booked the tickets and handed in my notice :clap
Today had a call from the estate agents saying there was now a problem and its too early to book tickets etc :( :(
I told her we plan to fly out on the 8th Aug and there was a loooong silence :no :no
so now its wait and see time

I know only too well how you're feeling. Right from day one we said that we wanted to complete our sale by 13th May as we had tickets booked for 21st May. This arrangement was fine (so we thought). Foolishly we didn't continue to market the house .... maybe we're just too trusting or just idiots :?.
Anyway ... very long story cut very short. We're still here. Have tickets re-booked for 16th July - still have no exchange - let alone completion.
I hope you took the precaution of making sure your tickets can be changed.
Fingers crossed for you ... believe me - you have my sincere sympathy on this one.

Diny and Wayne, hope you get a turn for the better soon. You are at the next stage from us and as such we are trying to get an offer quickly and allow 4 months to complete (yes, I know, if we're lucky). :?
Sending some non-denominational good luck prayers out into the ether for you both :nice1
Keep us posted, and just remember what goes around comes around, and if you don't believe in that well you could always try a voodoo doll!

Just to add my pennys worth. We landed in NZ on the Monday and our house sale completed on the following Friday :eek , so our first few days in NZ were nail biting ones.
We made sure with the solicitors that we had signed and sealed everything before we left, and we phoned the Estate Agents every day for progress (or not) and it eventually went through on the Friday!!!!
I feel for all of you going through the process at the moment, you definately dont need it!!!!

We are putting our house on the market this week, and hope for a quick sale as everyone does.
When did everyone then book their flights, do you wait for a sale or book tickets that you can change?
I feel like I am now back at the EOI Stage and having milions of things to think about and plan, work out.
How do you know which estate agent to chose (I have never sold a house) and now am selling 2 at the same time, (really going for it, selling out pension house too. Hope I like NZ).
How do you chose what to take? How do you know who to get quotes from for shipping? the list goes on and on. I now have a note book by my bed so when I can't sleep I write things down, I know I have to do them they are the same things I write each time, but until the are on paper again, my brain will not switch off.
Have go too family holidays before we hope to leave and want to get away on our own. AHHHH. the quite life of NZ becons.
Familys making you feel guilty, wondering if its the right thing, (YES), How will I get everything done, and facing clearing the house and doing my first car boot sale.
Car boot or Ebay?
Well enough of my rant.
Good luck to the house sales going through, hope to join you,

Hi Jo and Andy
Well done for getting this far.
Can't help you with the house sale part, we are in rented so can pretty much up sticks quickly. Good luck with it though.
Car boot or ebay mmmmm....
We do not intend to ship the whole contents of our house, seeing this as a chance to start afresh in NZ, choosing things we both like rather than putting up with the residue of the past. (sharing out after G's divorce and years of me being on my own)
I hate selling at car boots so have done all mine on Ebay. Well, I have 3 piles, Ebay, NZ and charity shop. Yes it takes a little thought and time to list the stuff on Ebay but everthing goes into the NZ fund from our PP account, so it's good to see the profits.
The charity shop is still doing well from us. I knew I had made it the other week when their whole window display was from my wardrobe!!
As a consequence of all this sorting now, I/we are a lot clearer about what is coming with us, the loft is nearly empty and I've made a good start rather than leaving this til the last minute, when I'm sure we would just throw it in the container because it's too late to do anything else.
I guess this approach may not suit everyone, but I'm a great one for thinking and doing now rather than last minute, which would be Gary's approach. :exit
Anyway, you are not ranting, it's good to talk.

Thanks, I am glad it's not winter, as when I clear the attic, I will miss all that extra insulation.
I think I will start getting everything down from the attic this weekend, just difficult to do when you want to keep the house looking good.
Ebay here I come.
Regarding the charity shop, wait until you see people wearing all your stuff.
We don't have enough for a full container, and do agree a lot of the stuff we want to replace, is it worth taking with us to replace later. Andy says live out of boxes till we get what we want, but I hate the idea.
Well good luck to you.

Just a thought: when negotiating the sale, one could ask to rent back from the buyer for a month or so after escrow closes. Then you could have a little breathing room.
We're planning to rent out our house for a couple of years just in case NZ doesn't work out. So our stress will be finding a suitable tenant - I've put a lot of efforet into the house & garden, and am very protective of them.
