Morning all,

Just been on the phone to that NZIS number this morning and have been informed that, as of last Friday NZIS has changed its thinking regarding processing applications.

If you've been selected out of the pool but DON'T have a job offer, like us, the woman at NZIS said that it might take 1-2 YEARS!!!! to process your application. They're prioritising people with job offers, and even those are taking 8-12 weeks.

What on earth??!! What have other people been told??? And why would NZIS lower the bar to 100 points if it couldn't process the applications?

Should people hold off those medicals and police certs? We're already done there, so that's possibly wasted loads of money. Can some other people give them a try and see what's going on?

Great start to the week, eh?

I wouldn't worry too much, I don't think anyone really knows how long it's going to take. As far as I'm aware once you have submitted your application that's it, that amount of time it takes to process doesn't matter.

You'll see on the forum that people without job offers are already being invited to apply so you should be OK.

Cheers,

Mark. :D

Thanks for the reassurance Mark, but I'm still not convinced... We've been selected out of the pool beginning of August, but haven't received an ITA yet. And were told this morning that our EOI hasn't even been assigned a case worker yet, so they haven't even done any of the preliminary checks they say they do before the ITA is made.

So it seems that the bit that's going to take "1-2 years" is waiting around for that ITA to land on the doormat.

Of course, I might be being hopelessly pessemistic, and it's just that the woman at NZIS had no real idea of the effect of all the new directives she said NZIS brought in on Friday...

I can't believe they would say "congrats an ITA will be with you shortly" if they didn't think it would be sent out for 1-2 yrs! If that's the case you would have thought they would have added to the message to say "shortly = 1-2yrs" !

However, your post has made us think twice about delaying job hunting... I am assuming that if we can get a job now that we are here that we can contact them and update our EOI...

I do think you are being pessimistic, I feel sure she is talking about the total time, not the time for EOI.

In order to attain their numbers they simply cannot take 2 years as the numbers queued up would simply keep increasing, or they would have to significantly increase the NZIS workforce. If you think about it they have to keep on top of all applications being processed within 1 year (once they get to a static "pool" size), otherwise they will be fighting a losing battle!

I really think that they don't know how long it will take at the moment, it's a new system, they've just had a big increase in applications because of the score coming down and are probably running around like headless chickens at the moment. :laugh

Keep your chin up, look on it as extra time to get everything sorted.

Mark.

Thanks again for your reassurance!! Points taken, esp about processing backlog. I'm going to pop over to NZ House in my lunchhour to ask them, so will report back!!

I know that i will probably be slapped by others and my husband for posting this but.......
As someone or rather married to someone, who has a job to start in Jan 05,i feel that if NZIS are processing people with jobs first , they are right.
It has taken almost a year for every thing to come to fruition, for deciding to go, that was Jan 04 , with all the NZQA , new passports, job hunting ,job offer and house move . We didn't put in our EOI until August .
I know that feeling of wanting to get out there now ,or having those visas in your hand , it's frustrating and stressful.
It is a catch 22 getting a job, with interviews and stuff, and i guess ,the line of work you are in too makes a big differance.

So i hope this post will not offend anyone, as it's ment with the best intentions.
Good luck everone who are looking for jobs. :hopeso

I actually called to NZIS people in NZ itself...and the funny thing about it was...she said that our application just in the stage of "Selected" and I said, so how come when I click on the website...it says "COngrats, your application has been successfull"? and she replied, "oh ok, well I guess your application is successfull then", just wait for the NZ branch in London send you the invitation letter...

Now, I wonder, how come the branch office in UK is somewhat ahead than in NZ itself?
I guess no matter what it is better to come there and get an interview. However, there is another thread about NZ in at glance (expectation and stuffs) some people mentioned it was harder than it seems.... :? :?

Like I promised....

Well, the nice guy at NZ House said that, as of right now, today, Monday 27 Sept at 12.48pm, they'd hope to be able to process and send Invitations to Apply to all those selected on August 4 over the next three months. That's slightly different to what the woman on the phone said this morning, which is good news.

So he reckoned that if we hadn't heard anything by mid-December, I ought to go back to NZ House to find out why.

Still, that's a hell of a wait. Mind you, we've been waiting since about November 2002 already... He said that they ARE prioritising those with job offers, and that of course is fair enough. They've got to prioritise those. Then they're prioritising those on the POL.

Which leaves people like us (no job offer not POL) who've just shelled out for medicals which we might well have to get done again because they'll have expired by mid-Dec. Be warned.

What does it say on the NZIS website? Make light of difficulties and they will disappear. Well yes, but to paraphrase, don't bother us with your problems, even though we created them!!!

Ho hum, aargh, etc!!!

Daniel - this might lighten your mood - before we came out I rang NZIS to say that I feared our medicals might have run out by the time we came to send off our ITA. They advised that you can get the forms "re-signed" by the doctor that initially did them - this is at the discretion of the doctor and they may charge a small fee for doing so - my guess is, is that if the doc found you in overall good health he will re-sign them... hope that helps- looks like we shall have to do the same thing as we had our medicals at end August and they are only valid for 3 months....

Hi Chips

Speaking for myself, your post certainly did not offend me. It seems very sensible for them to prioritise those with job offers. I'd only worry if it meant that they NEVER would get to those without..

If that would be the case, I'd hope they'd let us know.

cheers

alex

p.s. Thanks all (esp Dan) for the posts... :D

Hi

Can't really see these things taking 1-2 years as at that rate they will never hit their quotas and if it is the same aa UK Govn Dept then that is something that the political powers that be will not allow to happen.
Ruins their election pledges etc etc.

When were you selected from the pool? We were selected with 110 points on the 15th September and recieved a letter from nzis this morning, nearly spat my museli across the front room as i sifted through all the other junk mail. The letter tells us that we have been selected and they are checking us out! In the letter it says they expect to finish the checks within the next 6-8 weeks, :hopeso how long after untill pr? I do have a job offer but this was not included in my eoi as my registration to work as a plumber had not arrived. (and still hasn't)

We decided to submit work visa applications to get us to Christchurch in the meantime while our pr went through, my employer wants me working before December. Still can not submit work visa waiting for registration documents! We were expecting a long wait this is why we took this route, have been told by nzis that work visa applications do not affect pr applications.

Any body else done a similiar thing?

Well, whaddaya know? Read through the above thread and you'll see somewhat contradictory messages emanating from NZIS about how long it's all going to take.

And this morning I get a call from a very nice lady at NZIS to check my address - the ITA is IN THE POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stunned!!!!

Hi Dan,

That is VERY cool, well done. Can I ask, has your status changed when you click on "selected" on the NZIS site?

Cheers,

Mark. :nice1

Ok guys, answers...

120 points (I hope!) selected Aug 4th.

I actually submitted an EOI on paper back in December 03 so I don't have a version on-line, I don't think.

Well, fingers still crossed, I'll believe it when I see it, etc etc.

If I knew how to work those emoticons, there'd be a few here:

Thanks for your good wishes... here's hoping for you all too...
