Hi all, we have been in NZ for about three weeks now and love the country. The weather has been nice with some showers, the kiwis all think its freezing but compared to the uk winter its lovely - we have even been down the beach a couple of times. We are staying out past Whangarei and have just rented a house, got a car and will be starting work soon. That is my only snag at the mo - work visa and licence for working as a sparky. I may be hanging around for a while before I start work, so I will be well and truly skint soon.

I still think we did it the best way - with a camper for a 3 weeks, look for a house/job etc. The only downside is the kids drive you up the wall !!!! But seriously if you want to hire a camper go to www.kiwiautohomes.co.nz and speak to Keran Miller, excellent guy. You will get picked up from the airport, the rentals are very competitive and the bond is only $1250, they wont take it unless something happens. They dont charge fuel tax or for the gas you use -bloody excellent service.

Anyway, I will post again soon with good news hopefully,

Mark

Angela is also here staying with relatives, she will give updates when she gets settled - she has a job offer for a community support worker - they are crying out for them here.

Glad you made it and are enjoying it all so far Mark. What are your first impressions of Whangarei?
We plan on doing the camper van touring bit just like you. I will hopefully set up some interviews in advance, which should leave a bit more time to slip into hiliday mode.
From what I hear, you shouldnt have a problem getting work once you get registered. Good luck.
