Well I just thought I would post our experiences of NZQA! We applied for a full NZQA Assessment on the 10th June and paid to have it fast tracked. On the 24th of June we received the original documents back, and after emailing NZQA on 28th June just to see how things were progressing we received an email this morning (30th June) to say that the report was completed and posted on 28th June (NZ Time). Now I still don't know the outcome (our provisional was Level 4) and so I am very twitchy in case they are sending it back so quickly because there is something wrong :eek or hopefully CITB over here who needed to verify his NVQ just got a wriggle on! I will give you an update as soon as we receive any news :nice1

This sounds very similar to our experience. We paid to have my qualification fast tracked and we got everything back very quickly and were informed 2 weeks ago that the report had been done and posted. In the end the most frustrating thing was the time it took to arrive from NZ, but I think I'm more likely to blame our postal system than theirs. Anyway, it arrived Wednesday and was absolutely fine, so please don't worry. I think, like you, after all I'd read about NZQA, I just wasn't expecting it to be so quick and straightforward. I think if there was a problem, they'd be more likely to be dragging their heels! Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Kate,
Thanks for the reply. We received the report back 5 mins ago :eek (02/07/05) :clap :clap :clap What speed! and it is Level 4 :clap :clap :clap but I'm not sure if it is an acceptable trade :eek :? Hubby's trade is Diesel Mechanic and has been assessed as equal to Level 4 National Certificate in Maintenance and Diagnostics in Mechanical Engineering :eek Oooh he does sound important! :laugh :laugh :laugh Now I need to find out if that is an acceptable trade, but I'm having trouble with NZIS site :wah So if anyone has any ideas? :nice1

Well done on your level 4 assessment - that's excellent news for you. :clap :clap I hope the rest goes smoothly for you.
We had our assessed by e-mail first and was then asked to have it assessed in writing, we sent it off a almost 3 weeks ago and were expecting to have received confirmation of receipt by now, but nothing...
Dealing with them by e-mail has been very efficient and very helpful, it's the postal method that seems to be the delay.
We are hoping that we will get the the same level assessment in writing as we did by e-mail (level 5) as that's was our PR is now based on. :uhoh
Fingers crossed :yes
There are many posts here about the NZQA and I'd always been very complimentary, but am beginning to feel a little bit impatient just now. I know that we will hear from them - it's just the l-o-n-g wait...
We have checked that it has been received and the funds have been taken from the account.
Do they usually send confirmation of receipt or just reply with the result?

Hi Keith and Debbie,
I know how you are feeling :( we received confirmation of receipt and the original docs back that we sent, 14 days after we posted them :nice1 I think it all depends on how quick the company they need to get the quals verified with responds. I've read that they do use email address and faxes but failing that it will be snail mail which could be causing the hold up! If you sent photocopies as well though (and who wouldn't when they charge you $50 NZD to do it for you :eek ) I would have thought that they would have returned the originals by now :? We paid the courier fee to get them back mainly because it would have cost nearly as much as using prepaid airsure :nice1 So whether that has anything to do with it I don't know  I do know that when you get the result it is just sent by normal mail! hope this is of some help (P'bably not! :? )
I'm having Kittens now in case it isn't an acceptable trade/qualification. BUT I have just found that it IS an acceptable trade/Qual but what I still don't understand is whether it's the right one for Diesel Mechanics! :wah :wah :wah I give up now! It's been sent to NZIS this morning so que sara sara... whatever will be will be! or not :laugh :laugh :laugh
All the best to the both of you, sorry I've waffled on I'm feeling alittle lost in all these abbreviations and paperwork! :laugh :laugh

Hi Michelle
Good news about your quals :clap :clap It sounds like they should be the right ones for the trade. Keep us posted how you get on.
We did enclose copies, as you said for 50$ who wouldn't  We also paid courier services back to us, so I've no idea where it's all got to. Let's hope that they've all been assessed OK and they're coming back snail mail :yes :yes wishful thinking there.
Take care

Michelle - congratulations on getting your level 4 through - wish I knew the answer to your query - hope you get it resolved quickly although I'm sure it will be ok.
Debby and Keith - I received an acknowledgement from NZQA about 2 weeks after I sent all my documentation through and she emailed me as soon as she had a query. Think it could be luck of the draw as to who you're dealing with - our contact there was pretty good in the end. I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't gone snail mail like ours did and it took almost 2 weeks for us to get ours that way. Good luck anyway!!

Hi Michelle
In the London edition of NZ News this week, Diesel Mechanics are on the immediate skills shortage list.
Kim39 - you mentioned about Class 1 being on the immediate skills shortage list - is this a Class 1 HGV licence?
My husband's looking to take his licence before we go (has a Class 2 and PCV) and I've been trying to find out if HGV 1's are on the list (I know Moorf posted a note that a program on NZ tv about Australia said they needed them).
Do you have any useful sites/links about Class 1 stuff for NZ.
Thanks for any info.

Ria,
Yes Class 1 licence is on the immediate skills list. Unfortunately you have to 3 years experience with this licence along with proof. As for Class 2 licence, i am unsure where you stand. The only way to go, would be to email companys who advertise in the NZ Herald and see what comes to fruition. You can always apply for a 2yr work permit should you get an offer.
I know there is a 5% shortage regarding HGV drivers and it is steadily climbing. There are always adverts for Class 2 drivers along with Class 1 vacancies. Remember when searching, Class 1 here, is classed as Class 5 there, and Class 2, is Class 4.
Get hubby to get that licence ASAP, and get working for an agency. At least a little experience is better than none. You could then at least get to give it a go.
Hope i have helped.

Hi all
I have sorted my little problem now :nice1 :clap Phils qual has not been assessed as Diesel Mechanic but what it has been assessed as, is on the long term shortages list so we should be ok (fingers crossed! Where did that emoticon go?)
Hi Ria, I was just about to suggest you should PM Kim39 , but he beat me to it! :laugh Hope you find what you are looking for :nice1
Hi kim, Phil is looking at using his class 1 when/if we get out there , but for the residency thing under the SMC it has to be in the long term shortages list not immediate shortages :( God only knows why they decided it was only a short term thing, we both know that they have been desperate for drivers for years and it has took them how many to recognize the fact? :? :wah Still now the NZQA is over our next hurdle is bound to be a query with Phil's medical :wah We are expecting this one but we honestly don't know what to expect from NZIS :uhoh Yes we are hoping to make it on Saturday hope the weather's nice otherwise I hope this Salt Cellar's big? :eek :laugh :laugh :laugh I think you should set up a recruiting firm in NZ for Truck Drivers there has been an increase of late in people interested and I have noticed some on some of the other forums I lurk on :eek Hope you are all well and you get some good news soon :nice1

Michelle, i am under the impression that you can apply for PR from the ISL. I gather from my sources that the role will be on permanently. There is also a company that is accredited, so you can go for WTR.

Hello all,
Just signed up to this forum today, seems like a great resource!. Me and my girlfriend are moving to NZ this october but still has some paperwork to do. Especially NZQA. This question may have been posted and answered before but I couldn't find any.
Does anyone have any experience on what kind of documents the NZQA require? I have looked at their webpage but I can't imagine you have to send all those documents...
I have a BS from a Swedish university which I would like to have evaluated. Is it enough to send the univ. grades and the degree certificate? Do I have to send certificated of work experience or from secondary school?
I would appreciate any information on the topic.
Kind regards
Martin

Hi everyone,
Thanks Kim for your info - I'm the lead applicant (not as an HGV driver) but my hubby's panicking about the unknown 'what ifs'. Keep trying to reassure him that HGV drivers are in demand, although it does seem difficult to find specific jobs from the UK - these job search engines aren't that great. Anyway, all info adds to the mix and everyone's got to start somewhere - as you say he should get qualified and start working - however, that nasty thing called money keeps cropping up - but we'll get there I know.
If you do start up a driver's agency - keep us posted :nice1
_Martin_ - if you have your original degree certificate - that's all you need plus letters from employers confirming your work history - think this is so they can see you've gained related experience - however if you haven't does that mean they downgrade your level? I don't know.
I've got a story to tell about the NZQA, but as it isn't finished yet I'm going to wait until I can tell it in full. Suffice to say, I haven't found them terrible but thay are slow and a bit pedantic - so get that assessment off as soon as you can!
All the best
Ria

Hi Martin,
I have other information than Ria. You have to send diplomas, exam results and a study transcript. This is written in the NZQA guideline. You should download it and have a look on it.
best regards
