Having just spent an hour trying in vain to brush all the sticky burs and grass seeds out of my dogs coat I started to wander/worry how we are going to manage to import him without him being a bio-hazard. The usuall worms, fleas, ticks are easy to prevent but due to the type of coat my dog has he only needs to go out on grass and he gets bits stuck in him. He is 70 kg (11st) so you can't just pick him up and stick him in the bath.
Any one have any ideas how this is sorted. Also anyone moved a LARGE dog from UK to NZ and has any info I would be greatfull. It's going to cost a not so small fortune to get him there. A lot of companies seem to lack confidence in managing such a large dog.
Thanks for any info.

Hi, Debbie
I don't know if this applies to dogs, but I wouldn't be surprised. I know someone who imported a horse from Germany to the US; it got sprayed with all kinds of chemicals on leaving / arriving... :eek to kill off anything I suppose... :?
I'd have thought Golden Arrow could advise what is required?

thats one large dog, we imported two that weighed a combined 65kg. they arrived fine but were dehydrated. this seems the most common problem and I am sure with a bit more thought and ingenuity its one that could be avoided. I keep thinking that a large type of 'drip' bottle like we used to use for the rabbits would be better that the funnel and bowl affair that most use. Brin had ripped his off the cage so I dont know how long he had with out a drink. I do know by experience not to give them a bucket of water to drink out of and just feed them a small bowlfull at a time. Chippie the rottie cross drank masses and then promptly threw up.

Debbie,
I'm not sure what kind of dog you're shipping, but if you aren't adverse to it, have you thought of giving it a trim? We just shipped our two big guys (though not nearly as large as yours, only 52kg) one of which was a Newfoundland, LOTS of hair. We just clipped her down before the trip. A bit funny looking for a while, but it made for less of a possible mess when shipping and easier upkeep in quarantine when we can't brush her every day. Just a thought.

The trim could also reduce its shipping weight...
