Just wondered if anyone took special precautions with shipping photographs in their container shipment or had any problems with photographs in albums with plastic sleeves, etc.

Trying to decide if I need to do anything special to pack photographs. I'm scanning my important photos......but too many to scan everything and I'd like to know if there are any tips to help prevent damage.

Thanks,
Kate

I haven't shipped yet, but you raise a very good question. I think moisture would be the greatest threat. You might consider some kind of sealable plastic box and put some silica gel packets with the photos. Rubbermaid, Tupperware or a similar company may make something appropriate. It could be worth the extra cost to take them as excess baggage on the flight over.

No - I shipped our whole family album going back to my great, great, great grandparents and aunts & uncles and they all arrived just fine (so did the more recent photos) :nice1

Shipped masses of photo's - all arrived safely with the exception of two framed prints in just one of the boxes which appear to have suffered a bit of damp (strange as there were lots of pics in that box but only 2 suffered  ). Thankfully they are replaceable ones. All were simply wrapped and packed - no special plastic or anything. In fact, best not to wrap in plastic or it might "sweat" - wrap them in paper.

When I suggested a sealed plastic box (with silica gel), I was concerned that moisture from the sea voyage might cause damage. It sounds like that isn't much of a problem, n'est pas? Good to know.

Thanks for the information , everyone. Glad to hear photos arrived in good condition. I assume some of these photos were in regular photo albums with plasitic sleeves? I was wondering if that would cause some moisture?

Regards,
Kate

The plastic sleeves could hold in moisture and lead to mildew.

Isn't it funny how we all think the same.. I have a gazillion photo's and have took them out of the album's, put them into piles, and are sitting here ready to scan and put onto disc JIC!!! having read all the post's, I think I'll put them back into a box and stop my worrying.. still one good thing to come from it.. photo's are now in good order! tee hee.

we scanned a good selection of the older photos and just put them back in the albums. All seemed to arrive in good condition.
