Is there anyone out there who shipped a container from Scotland? Who did you use??

We used Crown when we left East Kilbride, they have a base at Livingston.

Happy with the work the packers did, and so far container is on time, we get it in two weeks, total of 7 weeks in transit, not bad. Cant comment on this end yet, but hopefully everything will be fine, will let you know

We used Shore Porter Society for our initial move from Perthshire to Sussex and they were excellent - might be worth getting them round for an international quote :nice1

We have had Shore Porters and a few others around for a quote.

Shore Porters £ 5800 roughly

Bishops Move £ 2800 roughly 2.3% insurance

Crowns £ 3758 3.0% insurance

I am still waiting to here from whites

Has anyone heard of any problems with Bishops Move or Crown.

The guy from Bishops Move impressed me the best, he was really good.

I had both Bishops Move and Whites round last week to quote, I liked the Whites guy better. They each gave conflicting advice, too:
Bishops Move said not to take old garden implements with really old wooden handles, seemed to think they would be a problem. :wah Advised that if hubby wanted to take his workbench it would have to be completely varnished (untreated wood). :eek And, told me not to even think about taking my horse vet supplies / shampoos etc :no
Whites had no problem with any of the above! :?
Will hopefully get the quotes this week; also have RSS coming round.

We used RSS to move house 5 years ago. We got them to pack everything, which they did....including the kettle....still full of water! :eek

The packers and movers didn't listen to a word I said. I think they're a bunch of monkeys :uhoh

See what you think though.

Thanks for that! Well, we'll see what the survey guy is like I guess! I'll keep you posted... :?

Yes Milliemoo our prices were for a 20ft container.

I had the opposite feeling about Whites and Bishops Move. I was not really impressed with Whites at all and one week later still no quote. I had the same advice from the Bishops Move guy, which I appreciated as he has been arrangeing moves to Aus and NZ for a long time. His opinion was that we could take the spades etc because if they were spotted by MAF we may end up with a large inspection bill, which I would like to avoid. Where as the guy from Whites had no idea where we were going which did not leave me with a lot of confidence.

Crown and bishops move got the quote to us in a couple of days. Although not the cheapest Crown seemed to be the most professional so I think we will go with them.

I've read quite a few people saying that Crowne arn't cheap but it's worth it.

It's funny how different salesmen can give a completely different immpression of a company to people.

Have you booked your tickets for September Nicola?

Let me know if you fancy a drink to escape the madness for a while

If you want to save some money we used a company in Auckland that specialises in port to door services. They took care of our customs and MAF documentation and delivery of the container from the port to our front door, where we unloaded it and then they arranged for it to go back to the port. They could quantify port service charges, which our shipping company couldn’t and saved us $400.00 on MAF fees – we paid only the actual fees. The managed to answer our questions when the shippers couldn’t, have done it themselves and so know the worry. Very personal service and extremely competitive

We're going with White's in the end, none of the others could match their price (£5300 for a 40ft). The quote is for door to door service, the only extra we should have is any MAF fees. Now I just need to get all my horse stuff cleaned up!! :wah

You should also be aware that they have probably excluded port service charges. What is there cost to do door to port. Relocation NZ charged us $1100NZ Dollars for the port to door service in Auckland and we unloaded the container ourself and they then returned it to the port. They can also provide people at an additional cost to unload the container for you.
