Hi, I have just looked at the NZQA website but was unable to download the forms... something wrong with the site!

My wife and I are just at the beginning of our plan to move to NZ and are totally unsure of the 'worth' of our meagre qualifications. I will have an HNC in Professional Cookery along with 22 years service in the RAF (not as Chef!!) So I am unsure as to what value my RAF service will have. Any ideas ?

Hello Loulou,

The primary candidate has the assessment done to score as many points as possible, as you'll know. The partner having it done also, having said that, can only help matters, as your EOI may gain 10 extra points for the partner's qualification.

Now I may be wrong, but the HNC qual is a well known one and established with NZQA, and anything to do with engineering should go far. It may be worth trawling the NZQA list of recognised qualifications, and/or the NZIS operation manuals to see if your partner's qual is on it.

If you have to have your quals assessed, there's opportunity to get across as much information as possible via email during the process. Bombard them with your relevant work experience, vocational skills gained,etc...I swear blind this made a difference with mine. Don't lie though! :laugh

You say "all" in your post, if you've got school aged bin-lids I'm certain they don't need to, more mature kids i.e. 6th form age, not sure as they may need to transfer credits or something (email an NZ school?). In summary ( I really feel like I'm waffling - very tired! ), all you NEED to have assessed is the primary candidate's qual IF you're happy with the points but it might HELP if you get yours done too. Mature school kids MIGHT benefit from some form of assessment to save doing credit transfers later and wasting time in NZ, but that would be the only reason to do it.

There, and if you survived reading that you're a star! Very tired. Sorry about the waffle  Better informed posts, by more alert postees will follow, I'm sure, this is a great board. Good luck :nice1

loulou,
i have just had my btec national certificate in print & graphics assessed by nzqa, the assessment came back in a 2 days and was for level 4 and equal to 50 points. i did 2 years full time at brunel tech. in bristol many years ago so i think as long as you did a nat. cert. or above you will be ok for 50 points yourself.
because (like you) i had already been selected there was no way of changing my eoi online so i then contacted nzis to tell them i now had a reference number, they emailed back with a fax number for the eoi team and then had to fax to wellington for them to update the eoi.
cheers
al

I had a similar question-- whether I (principal applicant) need to get the full assesment or whether the prelim one is sufficient. I am an attorney in the US (4-year university degree plus 3-year law degree) so it should be pretty obvious that I get the 50 points (for level 7) which is what the prelim determined (although I think its hould be 55!). But since our EOI was already selected, with the prelim assesment included, I don't care about getting a full assesment unless they make me get one. Anyone know if I will have to get the full?

Hello

Spoke to a very nice lady at NZIS today. Said that if Andys qualification was on their list, we did not need it assessing.

Hooray, it was on there, saved us $75.

Hello Everybody,

i need urgent help because i'm so confused about manythings in this immigration:

I have a bachelor degree in accounting. but from day 1 I get this degree I work in the IT field and all my experience in IT field ( more than 5 years ). I have certifications from Cisco Systems and Microsoft too. and have also some courses in the IT field and Project Management.

I have some questions:

1- now shall I add 50 points to the points indicator before submit the EOI. or shall I contact the NZQA first?

2- I have experience in a field I don't have a bachelor degree with. but as I mentioned I have a bachelor degree in another field. is this will stuck me? if yes .. do you know any way to still have a chance ?

3- about job offer ? is it a must to have a job offer user the skilled migrant category ? if yes .. how and I'm not live there and don't have any New Zealand experience ?

4- in the points indicator I need to know in a brief what they mean by work offer of employment? because I don't have offer employment but my current work in my country is in IT.

also what they mean with cluster. I've read the description but cannot fit it out.

also what they mean by Is your work or offer of employment for a location outside of Auckland in NZ?

I'm sorry for my long message but I need help and i know that there are allot of you have the enough experience in this immigration and can help ..

Thank you

Hello Mel,

I was at 165, NZIS told me not to bother getting a full assessment done because of the selection point. So now I'm effectively at 115 :nice1

Hello Mike,

I can help with some questions, but not all I'm afraid. With your degree/experience dilema you may have to talk to an NZIS officer on the phone. To me ( I'm not in IT ), it makes good sense to have someone with accountancy skills also capable of system monitoring/installation. Is your Microsoft qual MCSE? If so, you could argue the design elements of that + accountancy = business solution. Don't give up hope, anyone can see your qualifications are very good in any company, so hopefully the NZIS will too. :hopeso

OK, that's all guess work. The other questions,

1) As far as I know, a bachelor degree will be recognised, provided the university is in a recognised authority. Find the "List of recognised qualifications" on NZIS or NZQA website and check. If it is on the list, claim the points. If it isn't, or if you are not sure, phone NZIS and they will tell you. Or be lazy, phone NZIS first. :laugh

2) As above, but only ideas.

3) People are being selected with no job offer because the points are 100 to be picked. At the moment, they may go up soon. Depends on points.

4) Offer of employment in New Zealand. Must be on Skilled Occupations list, again on NZIS website, to claim points for.

5) Clusters are different businesses who form groups to help each other. There are only 5, the ones listed. Only a job offer with a company in one of those groups will get you extra points.

6) You get 10 extra points for living /working outside Auckland. You need a job offer though to get the points. 50 + 10

Hope some of that helps, Good luck :nice1

Hi Caven,

Thanks for your support ... actually i still have more questions ..

when i accessed the NZQA and go to Pre-assessment Result Application Form there was a question:

"English language name of qualification (in full please)"
Original language name of qualification if different from above (in full please)

what is that means exactly ? is that means to type them in English and by original language that i have a bachelor degree in the Accounting then i have to type that again in my original language ? ...

also they asked for Supporting qualification details (if applicable) ?
shall i consider the High school is a supporting qualification because without it i couldn't get into the university and get the bachelor degree..
they described that on the web in the coming words:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"If your nominated qualification was dependent on other qualifications (for example, a PhD, which was dependent on a previous master's degree and bachelor's degree), please list the previous qualifications. If you do not provide this information, it may affect the outcome of your pre-assessment report. NZQA will not be responsible if you fail to provide this information"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now i consider my bachelor degree dependent on a previous High School degree. Is this righ?

Thanks

Hello Mike,

If your degree is called an English name, just put that. I mean if your degree IS ONLY called an English name where you studied it. The actual title of the degree is what they want.

Supporting qualifications. I think a degree is a stand-alone qualification but I haven't got one so somebody else should be better to answer this. Don't put high school down though, no.

Best wishes :nice1

Hi Beysham,

Welcome to the forum! To address your questions !

Beysham Wrote:

If your qualifications are on the approved qualifications list obtained at an approved institution in your country you can claim the 50 points...if not it must assessed by NZQA.

Beysham Wrote:

If your work experience is related to your qualifications yes you can claim the experience. As Caven has noted.

Beysham Wrote:

To claim pionts for a job offer you must have an offer letter from the employer in your hand to supply with your Invitation To Aplly (ITA) which will be requested after you have been selected. No job offer = no points.

Beysham Wrote:

As for 3 above

Beysham Wrote:

Certain skills are needed in certain areas of NZ and these are refered to as "Clusters". Check out the NZIS web site for current details of clusters.

Beysham Wrote:

Exactly that! They mean the Auckland region which encompases Auckland, North Shore City and Manukau. It is taken to mean the Auckland Region.

Because English is not your first language and/or your qualifications were not (I am assuming) taught in English you will need to supply an IELTS score that must be ranked at least 5 or purchase ESOL credits!

Hope this helps
