I brought a painted ostrich egg back from South Africa last year. Just had Bishops Move round to quote for shipping us to NZ, he thought it might be a problem - anyone any idea?? His advice was to try taking it as hand luggage.....? :?

From the MAF site:

Eggs
Blown eggs may enter New Zealand if they have been fumigated to destroy any pests or diseases. Even though the contents have been removed, the untreated shell itself may carry disease organisms. Whole eggs are totally prohibited unless they are being brought in for hatching purposes and are accompanied by a MAF import health permit.
