Well the S**t seem to be hitting the fan in London at the moment with explosions all over the place.

Definitely time to go to NZ.

Hope not too many casualties :(

My husband just said "what do we tell the kids?" I reminded him that we grew up with this and that the kids will handle it o.k.

The news from London this a.m. certainly makes leaving the UK less difficult.

Hi all,
I really do agree with all of you about an extra reason to leave. But please be aware - the world is a small place and there are no guarantees that you will be 100% safe anywhere in the world.
I do not wish to be negative - just realistic.

It is a terrible thing that happened in London and I feel with all of you over there and hope that all forum members are okay.

I'll third it. I so wanted to go before today happened and now it's a sort of dull ache.

Anita, Whilst I'm under no illusion that we will be 100% safe any where, I think we will be safer than here. :exit

Just thinking back over the past few days of Live8, the 2012 stuff and the wonderful public behaviour of all concerned and now the devastation the terrorists actions have caused today.

Anita, there's something to be said for being a small country somewhere in the middle of ocean, away from nothing much other than smaller islands. Not alot of political gain to be had from attacking NZ. But then again, the same might've been said about the Falklands some years back.

Thinking about today made me think of when we were last in Auckland and the metro underground station had just opened. We went past it and three fire engines were parked outside, I said to Wayne that I wouldn't go down as it was probably a terrioist alert. It turned out it was only a small fire, but it shows how you are always on your guard coming from the Uk. We did go down later. My niece was working in Edgeware Rd today, thankfully she is O.K. Our son Ben has just phoned from Auckland worried if we are all alright, wondering that we might have gone up to NZ House in London today. :exit Trudy

What a terrible thing to happen - it sure is a very difficult and traumatic day in UK :no :no :no

For the casualities - we wish them well and have a speedy recovery.

For the fatalities - our heart goes out to the affected family members.

Indeed, however NZ also need to make precautions also no matter what. These kind of barbaric actions is very2 unpredictable you know. Remember Bali bombing in Indonesia? I thought Indonesia would be one of the least country to got hit by this terrorist attack. :no :no

I thought Indonesia would be one of the least country to got hit by this terrorist attack.

Idyllic as some of the holiday locations may appear Indonesia has lots of internal political divisions, a very strong islamic fundamentalist movement and a long history of internal political strife. I would have thought that it was just the sort of place that would be likely to suffer terrorist attacks.

Indeed I believe that the Bali bombing wasn't the first terrorist incident in Indonesia by a long chalk - just that it was the first one that ended up with lots of westerners killed and hence was reported far more widely in countries whose nationals had been involved.

Some analysts see Indonesia as a potential future trouble black spot, which is one of the reasons why I find NZ's general 'why bother' attitude to defence, ANZUS etc quite disturbing.

Even though I am safe (for now) across the North Sea in Holland, I still feel moving to NZ is the best thing to do right now. The lack of media coverage on NZ related to terrorism and participation in any wars, seems to make it quite a safe little island tucked away in a big ocean.

Can I also just say that I totally admire the British way of handling the terrible bombings yesterday. From what I've seen on tv so far, you seem determined to not be beaten down and are going about your business as usual.

It is terrible what has happended to all these people, and my heart goes out to all the people injured and the families of the deceased.
