Just a quick question that hopefully can be cleared up quite quickly.
We have a new and cunning plan! We are going to try NZ for a year.We will rent out our house here on a years contract and go to NZ, rent a house and look for work and get work visas based on the job offer.
At the end of the year we will come back back for Christmas 2006 and then stay in the UK if NZ doesn't work out or return to NZ if it doesIt all sounds so easy! (Not!)
HOWEVER, once we are there , how do we get through NZ Immigration as we will not have visas and if we do have return tickets then they will be dated a year hence?
Any advice or critisims if there is a massive difficulty that we haven't thought of yet will be gratefully received

Hi

Unless you are under 30, and can get Working Holiday Visa's, you will need to enter the country on Visitors Visas. As a Brit you automatically get six months in the country with no visa. You can get a 9 month visa from immigration (not sure what the extra charge is for this - approx £100 I think).

We came via the visitors visa route with no jobs etc. We purchased a 1 yr return ticket that had a changeable return date. On our outward journey we put the return date as 6mths from date of departure from UK. Once we had our work visas and subsequently our PR we changed the return dates :nice1

We submitted our EOI before we came here (EOI selected almost a year ago to the day!) and we therefore did the ITA etc from NZ and it was v. easy.

I think, with the current house sale stories, that if you can afford to do the rent / visit route then it's probably a good route at the moment - you therefore don't have to commit too much at a time when exchange rates are crumby.

You can try asking nzis about a waiver on an outward bound on a vistors visa. This is what my husband got. We went down to nzis in london, and for 50 pound he got a visitors visa, waivering the outward bound trip, which meant he came here on a one way ticket. Once here he got the job offer....work permit.....pr. I don't know whether there is any criteria to get one, but it is worth asking about :nice1
