Hello,
I have a question about whether it's better to look for a job in August (approximately 8/24th) or anytime in October. I can come at either time, but am leaning towards an October trip. That would have a further benefit, as hopefully, we will have PR by then (am I being too optimistic :? ) and employers may take my application more seriously.
Is there an advantage to either month?
Thanks!

Hiya,
Very little advice with what i have to go on, but i will say do not come out December/January.
other than that, depends on your circumstances, such as, skills, field of work, pr status, mood, if you can have an immediate start, employment opertunities, location, etc etc etc.
Yes, PR status will make Agencies/employers more interested, but it's not impossible without.
John.

I second what Rimbo says! Things basically start moving again in February!

We came out at the beginning of October last year & the rest is history - Ian got a job offer first interview & we've been here 6 months...
Having said that - I don't reckon August will be that different from October but do agree wouldn't entertain Dec/Jan for coming out job hunting - everyone goes on summer holidays then & the whole job front dries right up.
Good luck!

Same. We came out last Sept, hubby started job hunting end Oct and first interview = job offer.
And as the others have said above, avoid Dec & Jan.
I suppose if I was left with a choice I would choose the August departure - leaving more time to secure a position before Dec / Jan.
Not sure about anyone elses experiences but we, and a couple of others, have found that the recruitment timescales here can be more lengthy than those experienced in the UK - more for advertised jobs rather than via agencies. But this may vary depending on your job type etc.
