Hi CLG,
I noticed in your last post that you were bringing pets from LA. Can you recommend a service or veterinarian to help with this? Or are you going it on your own?
Thanks,
Liz

Hi Liz,
We are using International Pet Transport http://www.iptlax.com/index.htm there are a few others around here that have used them. So far they have been fine but the real test comes August 2 when our cat is supposed to leave for Wellington. I have seen a couple complaints about IPT lately along the lines of paperwork not being done on time. This may have nothing to do with IPT and could well have been a vet or the lab but it is making me nervous. I think all is still on track for us.
I will try and remember to post the results but you can PM me in early August and I will reply. We leave LA for Welly on August 18th. We move out of our house Aug 1 so contact I will not be checking in regulary after that.
Remember, it takes about 7 months planning to import a pet.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Where/when are you looking to move to?
Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the response. I envy that you are leaving so soon. We are in Hollywood now and looking to move to Wellington. We should receive a response to our PR application sometime between September and November based on the timeline they gave us. We don't have a job offer so apparently they need to interview us and I'm not sure when or where that will happen. I'm contemplating going down there in September, even if we have not heard, to start the job search process but I have not firmed up this plan (i.e. not sure NZIS would approve of this or how potential employers will respond).
I saw from another post that you are being relocated for work. I assume that makes the process easier. We're just going because we are sick of LA and love the lifestyle. Have you spent much time down there or is this a totally new experience?
Where did you get your cat microchipped? I've just started looking into that and apparently you need the Euro standard chip and the vets here implant only the US chip unless you special order. Any insight and advice on this?
Thanks. Congratulations and good luck with your move.
Regards,
Liz

I responded to some of these things under your other post. Don't worry about heading out for a job hunting trip, not a big deal.
We got the chip from a local vet in San Pedro, our normal vet did not do it though. I forget what type it is but I think this may be it: http://www.homeagainid.com/

In another post I read that the pet immigration authorities will accept a US microchip. They probably have a range of chip readers for this purpose.
I had to get one cat rechipped. The original either came out or died - not happy-making at $53 a pop. I'm writing to complain, and will hopefully get something back. From now on, I'm going to ask the vet to scan them every time, so I know if another one goes kaput.
Try your local SPCA or Humane Society - ours will chip for $25, registration included.

I posted some info a little while ago about acceptable chips from the US. See:

and feel free to PM me if you need any other info.
