Hi there,
Following on from yesterday's news that we're gonna have to wait AGES for our EOI to be processed, today we're thinking "well, what if we just go out on a visitors' visa?"
So I thought I'd ask you guys a couple of things.
Yeah right, you're thinking. If he has to ask, he'll never know.
But seerzly...
Can / do prospective employers out there give you the time of day if you're on a visitors' visa?
If your line of work isn't on the POL can an employer consider you at all without the right visa?
Any thoughts?

Hi Dan
Great to hear from you again!
It is a well known fact (in NZ) that potential migrants travel out on visitors visas to do a job search! It is by no means uncommon for an employer to consider such a person. They may be required to do a jump through a few hoops, e.g a job market survey, to get an approval in principle in place but at the very least you should be able to get a one year work visa while all the red tape gets sorted. Of course if you get a job offer and you are in NZ you will get those all important 50/55 points and will then be treated with some priority over those without job offers. Do not be tempted however to transfer your case to NZ from London for your PR application as processing times are quicker in London than in NZ. Also if you are in NZ when your PR application gets approved your fees will be cheaper!

Hi,
We got told by the 2 job agencies we're dealing with that unless we went over there and showed commitment that we would be very unlikely to get a job offer, but it probably varies depending on what line of work you're in as I've heard of a lot of people getting job offers before they go.
We're going next week for a week of interviews, but if we don't get job offers at the interviews we've arranged, we're selling up and going out the end of the year on a visitor's visa. :? Eeek! Bit of a gamble but if we don't take that gamble we'll probably regret it & we need the job offer to get enough points for residency.

Hi Sarah. My wife (Sarah) and I are thinking of doing the same thing. Our occupations are not on POL and it is proving difficult to get potential employers to make any sort of commitment (understandably).
We did start the process of applying for LTBV but that has been put well and truly on the back burner for now.
It is just a small matter of selling up here, and we will go for it. :hopeso

Rimbo. We may have the points now, pending a job offer. We have not put application in for anything yet.
