HI there,
I wanted to know if any of you went to the London job expo last year and what feed back there was from it. We missed last year and are planning to go this year. We thought we would try and get flights to NZ for the following week to do a look see and job hunt. We hope to have that precious PR by then. Those of you who went last year, did you find it was useful information and :P faces or were there agents / employers looking to fill real jobs. We were hopeing to make contacts at the expo and follow them up in NZ, it would also help us decide whether to do 2 stops in NZ or to concentrate on Auckland.
Thanks for any info
Debbie

Anita,

It is 15 and 16 October. I decided to go and have booked flights and hotel already. I also see it as a good preparation for my reccy to Wellington in November.

Is anyone else going as well?

Yes we were thinking of going , but like Debbie wonder what other peoples experiences have been previously. It would be nice to think that we could secure a job there and be out by Christmas , assuming the house sells by then of course !(On market, 28th Feb, no offers!)
We're in Herne Bay , Debbie , whereabouts in Kent are you?

Anita,
The info you need is at www.expo-newzealand.com but basicly London IBIS hotel Earls court 15-16 Oct and Manchester Javis Piccadilly Hotel 22-23 Oct.

Denise, we live in Paddock Wood and haven't even got the house doctored yet for putting on the market. It's a worry, don't want to get a buyer and loose them by being to slow to move, don't want to get a job and loose it as we can't sell the house, can't afford a UK mortgage on a NZ salary and can't leave the UK until end of Feb due to OH job. I keep telling my self there has to be an easier way to organise this but it excapes me so far. P.S did you let you estate agent know you were looking to emigrate? MY OH is sure that the moment they find that out the agent is going to Sc...w us over. He is verging on paranoid about it. Any ideas.
No, leaveing my OH is not an option this week.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the info.
And yes, we still hope to be in NZ by October - but if not, we might visit the expo.

Anita

Hi Debbie,Yes the estate agents do know we are trying to emigrate, we thought (mistakenly) that they might push things along for us as there was no chain and it was be a fairly easy sale to handle. However , nothing has happened for 4 months and we are at the stage of looking at renting it out just so we can go!
My advice to you would be , have a close look at the property market in your area.We put ours on in March expecting to be in NZ by July and of course that hasn't happened. The local paper is full of the same houses week after week which are just not selling .I just spoke to our estate agents who says that things are slowing down now (could they get any slower!) and August is always a dead month .However in September the market should pick up again.
My advice to you would be put your house on the market in September because by November things slow down again because of Christmas.
Whereabouts in NZ are you going and have you been there before?

We went last year and yes we did find it very helpful :nice1
Jon just handed out his cv, and a couple of days before we went to nz, a company e-mailed him and asked him to contact them as soon as he arrives. :eek
Which he done, and was offerred a job a couple of days after we arrived.

Joanne :cheers

Denise,
Hi , yep that was my plan. I talked to a load of agents at easter, (without mentioning the emigration!!!) and was told that things were not predicted to be great this summer but to either put the house on now, (we weren't ready) or not to bother until Sept when everyone comes back from there hols and feels the need to make a change in their life.
OH can't let his employer know that he is leaving until 17th dec and we haven't told our families yet so it's all very cloak and dagger. The secrecy is causing untold stress. We have never been to NZ our planned trip in Oct will be our only check out and we should have the visa by then. Here's hoping
We are planing for Auckland, if we can afford to live there anywhere else is a bonus.
