Carol,
I have just read your story and for anyone who hasn't read it it is a must read.
I have a similar situation you had when you emigrated. My husband has a brother in Tauranga and I have 2 kids but a little older than yours.
The reasons for us looking to emigrate echo yours, as in bringing kids up in a less consumer led society.
I read your bit about homesickness and it really got me thinking as I know it is going to kill me. That is why I am taking my mum and dad with us on holiday so they can see what the journey is like and the country should they visit once we are there.
I find I am thinking about homesickness and how I will deal with it and I am not even there yet :no .
What happened to your husbands work mates from the bank?
Do you find many brits go back to blighty as I have heard that happens alot?
Finances really worry me although I know I shouldn't let it. I have earn double what my husband earns and he earns a not so nominal salary. I will be giving up my job to raise the family. I know I can do that here but also reasons for leaving as above.
How did you cope financially do you see a difference with disposable income.
Sorry about all the questions but your article was so articulate that it got my head swirling. Especially the coffee bit :no
I am so glad to read you have made very close friends :P that is really important.
Sorry to rave on Carol but please keep us posted about life down under.
Cheers Jo
ps. The NHS has gone to pot I nearly lost my little boy at 4 weeks old due to their sheer incompetence. :(
