I heard last week that in the UK all BCG immunisation has stopped.

Having two 12yr olds who would have been due for this, I telephoned our doctor. Was passed onto the school nurse who apparently used to administer the jab.

She said it had been stopped because there was no more vaccine.
What little was left would be given to people from countries likely to have TB or to those who were very vulnerable. Apparently even though TB affects the lungs having asthma does not make you a candidate for the jab.

What is the score over in NZ? Are they still giving the jab or did they in the first place? We want our twins immunised should i be pressing the doctor for it or pay privately?

sorry put this under the wrong category praps someone could move it for me.

They used to give it in your first year of high school (donkey's years ago when I was young), then they stopped as there were few cases of TB. By the time my little sister went to high school, six years later, they'd stopped giving it. Then I believe there was a bit of an outbreak. But not sure if they started the old blanket immunisation thing again. Sorry, not much help really.
