Sorry double post If some one can fix this for me that would be great.

We didn't tell our estate agent.
The way we saw it was that if we told them that we had a "deadline" of sorts he'd assume we would be more open to "offers" (meaning lower offers) due to a potential need to shift the house asap - plus, the longer the house is on the market, the nearer you get to your leaving date etc, the more "desperate" you are perceived to be. All my own opinion, of course, and I've nothing to do with the real estate industry.
I know for a fact that estate agents, keen to get their monthly sales targets up, can be two-faced and devious. A very close friend in London is an estate agent and the STORIES she tells me makes my blood run cold. :no Can just imagine them on the phone to the potential buyers "look, they are emigrating to NZ, they NEED to sell, try an offer". :?

Yes we did, both of them. I was also clear with them that as I don't have a job to go to and was not up against any deadline I wasn't prepared to accept a derisory offer.
One estate agent was great, the one we sold it with. Clearly they understood that we were their fee master and they were acting for us and in our best interest.
The other smarmy ar#~h@les were clearly acting for themselves and trying to get a sale, regardless of whether it was a good deal for us or not, they just wanted their fee. Had we been against a deadline and only with this agency then I'm certain they would act as Moorf has suggested.

Yes, we have told our estate agent, but we've used them before and (possibly naively) trust them. They know we will wait till we get the right price and won't be fobbed off and also that we've moved a lot so are pretty savvy to their tricks. I feel happy with that decision - it's also a good reason to give viewers when they ask why you're leaving - they can't argue with that!

We have and I will let you know if we manage to sell our house as to whether it made a difference or not. They all want to know if there's a forward chain and I am useless at lying. I made it clear we were not on any time frame at all and we would leave when the house sold, if necessary we will rent or doss with the in-laws. So watch this space (first viewer due tonight - if he shows).

We have told the estate agent and we will tell the viewers [if and when we get any ],but no timescale ,we will just move in with the in laws.
There are 4 other houses up for sale in our road ,we want to show that we are genuine and have no upward chain .
Good luck everyone .

this was really difficult. We intially told our estate agents we were relocating to Blackburn!!! (hubbies job is there).
And he kept going on about NZ and why don;t we just 'go for it'. We had told him that we had just got back from holiday there. I think he had an inkling anyway. So the 2nd time he came round we were honest but told him that we did not under any circumstances want our buyers to know.
Buyers to know!!!! jeeze if I could only get viewers

My story is that I tell prospective buyers their is no chain as I am off travelling for a while once the house has gone. Like haveing a gap year but at a more mature age! They have asked what i am doing with the furniture and I tell them its going in storage and the pets are being looked after by friends!

Yep - we had to tell them - we put the house on in November & left the country at the end of December - house stayed on the market until it sold beginning of July. We found it actually helped us since we phoned them every day once we had a buyer & because they knew they were getting chased daily & it was costing us to phone & that it was our bedtime when we were phoning that they'd better have a daily update for us! :nice1

So far the only down side of telling people we're emigrating is several have wanted to know what we will be leaving for them. They've seemed disappointed when I've said 'only the built in stuff and integrated appliances, the rest is coming with us'. One guy was eyeing up our Ikea computer desk. Will let you know if we have any other problems.

Interesting. We told the agents that we were emigrating as we felt this would be an asset. The idea of not having a chain to move into and the fact that we already had our visa's seemed to be a plus (or so the agent said) Another bonus may be that if the people are really keen on your place, they will try harder to sell theirs...perhaps?? Personally found viewings awkward, and it was something to break the ice! Also said that we needed the money to buy a house out there, so we couldn't be brought down too much.
Hope this helps
