Anyone know what the standard size for shower pipes and hose bibs are? I have a few 1/2" and 3/4" fittings that I would like to take with me but I have no idea if they will work with NZ pipes. I'd be willing to buy adapters/connectors if they make them to convert 1/2" and 3/4" to whatever metric size is used in NZ! Anyone know?

I wondered about this as well, I have a few nice gardening hose's and was wondering if I need them, I mean do people in most parts of N.Z ever have to water.
More specifically, during tomato growing season. Do you bring the american hose or just junk it?

Justin, when my husband asked our friends there about garden hoses and would they fit, they started laughing! And then told us that we could get an adapter if they didn't fit. I didn't think it was that crazy of a question, I've asked worse! But it sure made them laugh!
Where we will be living, I have heard that the watering restrictions, if it is a bad summer, are this. No automatic sprinklers except on alternate days, but if you stand there and hold the hose to water your plants, you can do that on any day! Those evil, evil automatic sprinklers! More fun Kiwi logic!

Following on from the above discussion ... I have done a lot of DIY plumbing here in the UK and I have collected a load of 15 & 22mm copper pipe solder fittings, plus quite a few brass compression fittings, also 10x3m of 15mm copper pipe.
Am I right in thinking that soldering is a no-no in NZ? Is it worth bringing any of this stuff with us? I'm assuming that NZ plumbers use push-fittings because the pipe can rotate when the earth moves, rather than start leaking?

We have just had our en-suite done and they used plastic pipes then crimped all of the connections.
