Hiya,
Unfortunately, we still have to pay them off
They said we just have to let them know our new address and pay from there. I asume payment amount will be based on the wage you earn as over here.
I did consider just leaving and not telling them, but they have 2 contact address dont they. Wouldnt dare actually. Nice thought tho eh, just writting it all off

Argh don't even mention the SLC to me!!! Remember that if your student loan in old enough you can defer, if you are earning less than the limit - which is about GBP1800 / month. Mr Rr is on $58k / year which does put him under the limit - though getting them to accept that is proving a bit more difficult. Made even more frsutrating by the fact that they take weeks to answer a simple letter, they don't communicate by email at all (unless they think you are defaulting on payment) and they are pretty much useless TBH!!

Thanks for the above replies. Yep, Student Loans are completely inadequate. Steve hasn't had an annual statement for two years. Seems impossible to even get one out of them.

I have one of the original student loans and we have been paying it off steadily, but now we're emigrating to NZ I think I'll be deferring until I know what I will be getting in NZ.
I've heard (don't know if this is mere rumour) that if you defer more than 20 years, they write the loan off...wouldn't that be nice.
I get the impression I won't be earning £1800 per month for a fair while in NZ. I'm contacting SLC today so will hopefully hear from them soon (although I don't sound to hopeful on that regarding the comments here), will let you guys know what they tell me.
Cheers
