Hi, this is the first time we have used this site so bear with us !!!
Our situation is this .....My husband has been offered a job in Auckland and we were advised that the quickest way to get a visa was to apply for a WTR. This we did using an Auckland based agent back in February. We had our family medicals and received a letter back from the consultant physician in Wellington in June. He basically said that our son was not medically acceptable. Our son who is 4 has a complex congenital heart condition. We have since had to go through the process of applying for a medical waiver for him. We have submitted our case which includes medical reports and letters from our employers in Auckland which all read very positive. This was done on July 8th. Our main question is how long should it take to get an answer for this WTR. Our agent keeps telling us she can't give a date when we will hear. Has anyone else been in this situation? Would it benefit us in getting in contact with NZIS. At the moment our lives are completely on hold. We can't move forward with anything until we know what the outcome is going to be. Will be grateful for any advice. Thanks John & Vicky

As above.
Just to add , i hope that your sons condition is remedied, and causes no serious effects.

Why were you advised to go for WTR when the points are so low ? I would have thought the quickest way was Submit an EOI and use a work visa to get you out here quicker whilst your EOI is being processed. I thought and I might be wrong here that you had to have another medical before your work to residence was converted to PR in 2 years time.

I, like many others on this site, have a real distrust of agents so if you want advice go to NZIS.

Welcome to the site I am sure you will find it useful, there are people around here who have had medical issues so hopefully you will get an help.

Thanks Michelle

We are totally confused now!We were advised to go for the WTR (Talent Visa) because we were told this was the quickest way! (bearing in mind we started out back in Feb doesn't seem that quick to me) With the work visa, can you take your whole family out on this type? We were told that our children (ages 4 and 15 months) needed a student visa, and my wife needed a WTR aswell.

Regarding agents, they don't seem to be able to give you any answers as to time scales etc. when we are going to hear the decision. Our agent is based in Auckland. The decision, I think comes from NZIS in London. Would you go direct to NZIS in London to see if we can get an answer to the decision. Our agent has in the past advised us not to ! Don't understand why???

We are totally fed up at the moment just waiting. My son is due to start school, our house is being sold, I am working my notice and considering I have a job waiting for me (The company had to get authority from NZIS to come to England for skilled labour - Natural Gas Industry) all we want is a decision so we can go and book our flights. Should it really take this long? Thanks for listening! Any advice, we would be grateful

It all sounds a bit of a mess and very stressful. As I said before I just don't trust migration agents as many seem to be only intersted in $$$$ Did the company that employ you recommend them if so I wold have thought they would be reputable. If you come over on work visas your children would need student visas and your wife will automatically qualify for a work visa because you have one. It does sound like you have gone too far down the line to change to PR and an EOI now but do check the medical situation in 2 years.

I am not sure why they woudl have said don't speak to NZIS if they want to do it well make sure they do its what you pay them for.

My job is working with people coming over here and my advice to people in the UK is never book your flights until you have your visa.

I hope somone else chips in on this topic to be able to offer you more advice.

Surely though guy's ,the unfortunate issue here is that a young man has a a heart problem ,the the physican in Wellington has deemed " unacceptable".
Now even if v. redmond had gone the pr route, the outcome would prabably have been the same . A working vias would be better surely as you don't need a medical ( if i remember correctly).
In my thoughts for a favourable out come- Chips

Thanks guys for all your advice. It's up to NZIS now to come back with a positive decision. Fingers crossed and we will let you know the outcome. Just a thought--- if it goes against us, are there any other options open to us ie can we then go for a work visa or appeal against the decision.

Hi John and Vicki,

There's a member here called Lesly, she has a son with a medical condition.
I think they went with a WTR and have now received PR, if I'm not wrong.
