Hi
Sorry, it's the age old question about timings on hearing some news after submitting your ITA. I know there have been numerous threads on here and other sites about when you'll receive news, but there doesn't seem to have been much news in the last month or so regarding people having their telephone interviews or being given PR or really anything about their applications (other than submitting them)!
We submitted ours in person on 30/6/05 (115 points. No job offer) and received the usual acknowledgement and letter that we will be assigned a CO in 1-2 months (they also took our money immediately!), but since then nothing.. PR was being granted to people pretty quickly before June, but it seems that things have really slowed down since (although I notice someone on UK2NZ submitted theirs on 22/4/05 and still have heard nothing).
Would just be really interested to know if anyone has had any news, whether good or bad, who has submitted recently. Also, for anyone who's been through the process, is there anything you can do to speed things along, or do you really just have sit it out?
Thanks
Kate

We sent our passports off at the end of June. We got them back in 2 weeks, but didn't expect them so soom 'cos when we chased them they said they were VERY busy.
Until you get a CO you've got no-one real to chase :?

Hi
After our interview[ 28th june],she said let you know in a couple of weeks ,we e mailed after 2 weeks with no replies ,then phoned her after nearly 3 weeks and she said we still hadn't been processed ,wait a few more days [got the news from an e mail at 7pm ,they must work late !!],then the letter 2 days later .
So I guess they are busy .

I can't help really but can come out in sympathy :yes
Our ITA was submitted in person last weds and they zapped my credit card the next day. While I'm more than happy to pay, I also wish things could be a little quicker. :wah
Locking myself out of the NZIS site by messing up my pword has done nothing for my fingernails.
I hope you hear something soon. You are nearer the top of the queue than we are, so I shall keep an eye out for your posting.

Submitted everything in person on the 1st July, application changed to "Application received" a few days later, since then nothing.
Same points as you and no job and not really in any rush except I put in all our passports in the application thinking it would be 6-8 weeks and unfortunately I will now need to get them back for a holiday in EuroDisney at the end of next month (doh!)

I guess we'll just have to sit tight, won't we? Bummer about your passports. We sent ours off too, but seeing as I'm due to give birth in a month's time, we knew we wouldn't be going anywhere exciting in the near future. I think you can ask for them back though if you need them urgently!

In the same position as most of the people in this thread:

It seems to have gone ok, but you never can tell can you? She did say though that she would sort the passports out ( :eek I promise I won't get too excited about that - it could still mean anything but I have to say it does sound promising! :laugh fingers crossed!) and get everything sent back to us. It could take upto a week, now I still don't know whether she meant to hear something from them or to receive everything back :? I think Phil was still in OMG mode! :laugh :laugh :laugh I promise to post as soon as I hear something :yes

We handed ours in last month.
Phoned them this week (london). Currently there working on people who have jobs starting late august/early spetember, we hav eone strating in October and they said we will get visas before then and it'll be 2 weeks before they assign us a case officer and start work.
Work on applications without job offers is put on a back burner and will take 4-6 months I believe.

Ours went in 20/7, still says application received and we haven't got a case officer.
I understand the reasoning behind people having jobs being processed, that may be us sometime soon :clap and everything crossed. and I'm happy that people are achieving their aim and I get to hear about it here!
Whilst I am sooooooooo impatient, I'm keeping busy sorting stuff out, de-cluttering, selling etc. The more I do now the 'easier' it will be when we do get that the decision. We can just 'pack & go'

We're going spare with the waiting - we really are. We submitted ours in person on 30/6/05 and each time an email comes through, we keep thinking it might be them!
That is seriously worrying if people without job offers are having to wait 4-6 months. The confirmation letter we received said that we'd have a CO within 2 months (should therefore have one by the end of this month), and we'd have a decision in 1-3 months, which would make the worst case scenario that we'd know by early December.
Rob, did they tell you when you phoned that the current wait for non job offers was 4-6 months, because that is not good news at all!
Michelle, who has just received her blue stickers, got word just over 2 weeks ago of their interview, which would have been the same amount of time for her then as it is for me now (if that makes sense) ie around 6 weeks from receipt of ITA without job to interview. Of course, maybe they were just lucky - it's possible that our application has landed on someone's desk who's gone off on holiday for 3 weeks or something. I'm also concerned that the fact that I'm pregnant might make them put us on the 'too complicated to deal with right now' pile.
I really don't know what to do for the best - I don't feel like we can contact them as it is not urgent (although it feels urgent to us).
Anyway, moan over. Just feeling extremely peed off about the whole thing at the moment - your life's just on hold, isn't it!?
Hope someone gets some good news soon!

I'm really feeling for you all (Where's the emoticons gone now?) I remember the waiting well and it is definatley the worst bit (having said that I have yet to do the flight with my 4!) Smiler we too are in rented accomodation and they are knocking the house down in Sept/October so we were desperate to hear something because we didn't want to be tied into another 6 month contract over here. I thought the same as well about it being sat on somebody's desk who was away on holiday! I will send positive vibes to all of you, and I am convinced one of you will hear something before the end of next week. I must admit we did email the Queue Manager to ask questions/update them on NZQA assessment. The theory was that they would have to pull the file out , but I don't think that made much impact as it was still another 3 or 4 weeks till we heard something. It has to be soon doesn't it, because they must have two piles those with job offers that get processed straight away, and those without job offers (and I was in that queue, so they must be working through june submitted ita's)
Good luck to you all and I am eagerly awaiting your news!

I know - I read your post on UK2NZ yesterday and almost died when I saw the title of the thread. It really doesn't make sense - surely even if there is a temporary problem with your wife's qualification, you've surely got enough points anyway on your own merit so why would they change you to WTR? At least it does sound like it's just a technicality and you'll be upgraded to PR soon, but I think the whole system is daft! Congratulations on getting there anyway!

Rob
What technicality????
My wifes a fully qualified pharmacist registered with the UK society (needs this to work in the UK).
They have a reciprical agreement with the NZ body for certification (for now) , all she needs is a letter of good conduct from the UK body to the NZ body (done) and 1 months supervised working and she gets her NZ cert.
But until then she isnt 'qualified' to work in NZ. And she's the main applicant, so we have to go, she has to work 3 months (minimum time) get the cert and we get our PR rubber stamped.
Smiler
18th August 2005, 03:44 AM

Does she have a job to go to, so that she can get this months supervision or do you start looking when you arrive?
Sorry Mrs Rob don't mean to keep calling you 'she'.
Deborah
RobDickinson
18th August 2005, 03:45 AM
Yep Pam has a job starting in October, there not at all bothered about the certification process in the slightest.
Pams the main applicant because she's more qualified than I and can find work eaiser, otherwise I would have to apply with no job, IT being picky on things like start dates etc...
Carl and Liz
18th August 2005, 03:47 AM
Rob - sorry to hear about the technicality. Hope it works out for you.
We sent our PR application from Los Angeles in mid June (140 points, no job offer). On June 28, 2005, NZIS sent us a letter acknowledging receipt of the application. That letter said we would have a case officer within the next month and a final decision in the next two to four months.
On July 20, NZIS sent another letter saying that we would have a case officer within one to two months and they would make a final decision on our case within two to four months following allocation of a case officer.
Did this happen to anyone else? Does where you are from effect how long it takes to process your application (it seems like some folks from the UK who submitted their applications at the same time have already been processed)? We have not heard anything further.
I'm going crazy trying to arrange the details of selling the house and making the move and also because of the waiting around. I'm tempted to go down to NZ without the PR and look for a job and have my husband follow me once I'm settled. Does anyone have experience doing this - is it a bad idea? Not sure what the negative consequences would be. We don't have any obvious reasons why they would reject us (except maybe being from LA!! ;) in that we are both relatively young professionals with no criminal records or medical issues.
Hope everyone is doing well and, aside from the waiting, having a great day!
Regards,
Liz

Fantastic news, Boz and Helen. Good luck.
Craig had interview about 2 hours ago and seemed to go well. No questions that were unexpected - just the usual about what we'd done about job hunting, people we knew out there etc etc. She was very nice apparently. Said we should know by MONDAY!! Help!
Said there would be 3 outcomes: we'd either be declined, which she said she wouldn't do. Therefore it'll either be WTR or PR, so either way we're going, which is of course very good news. Going to look into the implications of WTR if that is the case (ie do the kids need to get student visas?). Still, it's a weight off our shoulders (kind of!).
Just going to be constantly checking the email till then.

Hi Kate / Deborah
Interview over (Phew!)
The lady from NZIS, Catherine, was very nice and made it clear from the start that there was nothing to worry about. I had a pad and pencil at the ready to jot down all the questions, along with my covering letter and a list of any research I had done on looking for work, houses, where I want to live, why etc. I was so nervous I diddnt actually read them much or write anything down (doh!), anyway as I remember:-
The first question was something along the lines of have you done anything about a job or finding work, and have you been in contact with/registered with agencies. I hadnt actually contacted any agencies but I had been in contact by email with a couple of local IT companies in Nelson, one who exchanged a few emails and asked me to call him when I arrive (promising but nothing definate). Having a contact in Wellington (Thanks Helen and Alan!) who said they would look at my CV and put us in touch with contacts also seemed to tick a box. I did say I couldnt really go until Decmber earliest due to my current job and we diddnt really want to rush anything. The job bit seemed to take up most of the interview, I guess your employment prospects are the biggest thing for them though..
She asked a few questions about have we looked into the cost of living, looked at rental prices and have we been in contact with any schools, all of which we had done but not in great detail as they really need a visit, but we did have some names and contacts to show we did our homework. She was also impressed my daughter was looking forward to it and had looked at the school web sites (Thats my babe!)
She also asked if we had any family, (no), friends/others (yes) and what contact we had made with them.
I dont normally waffle, but I think I babbled profusly and repeated myself several times in places, however, I kept to the facts completely and put off any tendancy to exagerate (so no adding a nought to your funds and if you have'nt done something then just say so, unless you completely screw up I think this is more a formality than a test).
To her word, she was very pleasent and professional on the phone, we had a bit of small talk at the start and finish and kept to the essentials in-between. She said a decision would be made in a week or so by email, unless "mystic Kate" knows already!!
Even though I think it all went well I will now be a quivering wreck for a week. So much for the relaxing holiday!

Hi Boz
Sounds not dissimilar to ours (not that I know because Craig did it!). I know how you feel - you wait for weeks to get word of the interview, you have the interview and then the waiting's even worse than it was before! Craig's now saying he thinks she said we'd hear by Monday, but he may have been imagining she said that in his post interview haze, so I'm not holding my breath for Monday.
I think the fact you're going away is a really good thing (wish we could). Is it Disney you're going to? Go on Space Mountain a few times and that will take your mind off it (and anything else really!).
You can almost guarantee you won't be turned down. The annoying thing is I'm sure they could tell you then and there, but they just like to make you sweat - I reckon they've decided before they even interview you what the outcome will be!!
Good luck - let us know when you have news and we'll do the same! Have a fab holiday!

Hello there,
That's it.... Today, we got an e-mail from our case officer to decide on a suitable date for the settlement interview
This should take place next week.

Hi Sharpblade
That's really good news - do you actually have a date for the interview yet? At least you've got plenty of time to start swotting up! Everything seems to be coming together for everyone now. I know the wait has been frustrating, but it's all worth it in the end. You're almost there now, so you should congratulate yourself!
Let us know how you get on!

Took the interview this morning: mainly they ask you how you are going to find a job, what if you do not find one straightaway, why did we chose NZ and which other countries did we consider (Australia... NZ mindset is closer to the Irish we very much like), do we know people over there,...
At the end, my case officer confirmed that we would have the final decision in the next two weeks and that basically they would have to decide between a work visa and a permanent visa. In other words... we are moving to NZ....

Good to read all these messages about timelines and interviews. For our timeline please see below - now in the final stage: interview next Wednesday.
We are definitely going for PR. Does anyone know why they should issue a WTR instead of PR?

Hi Sharpblade
Congratulations - you know you're going now and I'm sure it'll be PR rather than WTR. Hope they don't keep you waiting too long - this is the worst bit, I think. You're so near, yet not quite there. Let us know when you hear!
Deborah - it's your turn next - I'm still going for later this week (although my witchy powers have possibly been dulled by the lack of sleep...)

Good to hear from you. I remember those days :exit
Have nearly worn out the inbox and the NZIS site checking, Gary says I'm not allowed to hassle them but I think a little polite email wouldn't go amiss.
Thanks for looking in the crystal ball will let you know when you are right!!
Stay well

According to our personal NZIS webpage, our visa is 'APPROVED' and is of type 'Residence'.... Does this mean we have just got PR?
I suppose YES :yes
The dream is really starting.... (as well as the real work!)

Hi Sharpblade
Sounds pretty much like it to me. We've got our passports back with blue stickers but our status still hasn't changed on NZIS! Has your CO emailed/phoned you yet?
Anyway, congratulations! It's a good feeling, isn't it?

Well I've taken the bull by the horns!
Actually no, I've sent the most inoffensive, non grovelling email in the history of the www to the queue manager.
So as not to startle them or make them angry, I gently snuck it down the interweb tubes and placed it quietly in their inbox. Then I :exit
Now I shall keep checking our inbox at least every mmmmmmmmmmmmm 2 seconds. Not that I'm worrying you understand. ;)
