When we lived in Spain we used to use a company to make cheap telephone calls is there such a company in NZ?

Im not sure about that one. We use the phone cards. You can buy them from Dairys and call to the UK are in the region of 2-7cents per minute

You might want to look into Skype if you have broadband. It's an internet phone connection. Once you have the microphone it's the cheapest option available. You can check out

for more info. Or, something like Telecom that has a program where your international calls have a cap of around $5.50 but where you can talk for up to 2 hours at that price.

Thank you we already use skype and purchased a skype phone many months ago which was working ok until we moved into our house in Hamilton. Now it works sometimes and not at other.

Just back to Kansas after a month in Taupo with my husband, who began work there in May. He uses the mobile phone with Skype so that he can call any phone number. Price? Two American cents per minute. Such a deal.

If you are with Telecom here in NZ, there is a 0161 number that lets you talk at a fraction of the cost.
A normal 10 minute call to Malaysia would cost $7 and using 0161 cost me $0.55!!! The line is just as clear. Not sure what the charges to other parts of the world!
