I've been to Wellington a few times now and it's always been bright and sunny, so I was beginning to think all the stories about the wind were an exageration.
Then I flew there yesterday from Chch for work. The plane spent most the approach apparently flying either sideways or tilted at a 45 degree angle. :uhoh
The pilot certainly earned his pay getting us down. I then stagger out of the airport into a taxi and mention the wind to the driver only to be told it wasn't wind, just a stiff breeze. :eek
Thing is I have to go back there again tomorrow. Anyone seen the forecast?

Carol's right - we were sat yesterday in the office at the top of the botanic garden with wind whistling round the building but I didn't notice it at all when I was outside! :?
I don't think of Welly as all that windy either - its only the odd occasion walking close to the wharf in the city on a very windy day that I feel it.

You'll get used to it after awhile.
It does get a bit windy near the CBD by the harbour but apart from that it's just a nice breeze most parts of the day.
I may be wrong but I think the wind helps blow away most of the rain clouds as Wellington don't get all that rain other parts of country get. I have yet to see a thunder storm here in Wellington but Auckland had a really bad storm a few backs with lightling and all the works thrown in!

That's true actually Shagen....in the 9 years we have been here I have seen 3 thunder/lightening storms in Wellington!
I remember them all because they are SO unusual!
