Hi Laura

Don't know the answer to your question, but would like to know! I've had a really nice email from the primary school saying that they will be able to accept our kids in the new year if we move to Sumner, but not sure about seconary schools. We've been looking into the possibility of private schools as they are not nearly as expensive as over here.

Anyway, rambling..When are you hoping to move there?

Hi Kate

We're hoping to move spring next year and as yet undecided where exactly we want to live!!!...although it will be christchurch if we get our visa.

i have 2 daughters aged 7 and 11 so i need to be sure that the local secondary schools are ok as she'll only have a year at primary...although she starts secondary school here in september so she's a bit miffed about going back to primary!!

Hi Laura

One of our daughters is 7 too! We're also a bit undecided about where we'll live, apart from Christchurch area. We do really like the look of Sumner and have heard only good things about it, but we could completely change our minds when we get there!

I can understand your daughter being miffed about going back to primary school - it's a big thing for them, isn't it?

I believe they go to Linwood College - or should I say, that is the zoned high school for Sumner. There's been talk of funding for a high school in the Ferrymead area for the Redcliffs / Sumner /Fmead areas but its just talk. Linwood doesn't appear to be somewhere they'd choose to send their kids - even though I'm told it got "most improved school" or something. The comments I usually hear are that it has a high Maori attendance and pregnancy clinic. :? Most send their kids elsewhere, not sure how they go about doing that but I see all sorts of uniforms getting off the bus outside the shop.

A lot of people in the Sumner/Redcliffs area do send their kids to private schools - although it's a relatively well heeled area I would wager that many would not if the zoned secondary school was a lot more attractive. Linwood may have got a 'most improved' status but that says very little about where it stands relative to other schools.

For those who don't go to private schools Avonside Girls and Shirley Boys seem to be quite popular, as does Burnside (although that's way over the other side of the city). One of the school buses from Sumner does go to Burnside - perhaps to accommodate those kids who are on the specialist music programme which Burnside has.

I hope you all know about "etime" on Armargh Street.........

If I lived in Christchurch my kids would never be away from the place!!!!!!!
(recommendation indeed from a teacher!)

If you want details - pm me.
