Hi all
I haven't been on for a while but am just about to put ITA in, but I have a query.
Although Sarah and I have lived together for over 2 years we've just realised we have nothing, whatsoever, written down i.e. bills etc JOINTLY!!!! I've always paid the bills etc and she's paid for food and what have you, so we've always had seperate bank accounts.
How do we prove we are in a genuine relationship, other than telling them we are getting married very soon and have a baby due in Dec?!

Also, a long shot, any one applied for a police certificate from Brunei? I've got the British results back already but the Brunei ones seem to be taking an age, any ideas of how long they take?

Cheers H

Hi H

We had one very recent utility bill and our tenancy agreement on the house. I also included a photo or two of us at a family event 4 years ago.

Everything else of ours is separate, so if they need any more. we're stuck. ( the utility bill was an accident really )

Do you have a council tax bill I think you have to be listed on there, or driving licences showing you live at the same address?

What about letters from friends and family (particularly if you know anyone of standing in the community). Wills giving all to each other. Ummm - envelopes addressed to you both/letters to you both even if not 'official'. Photos. Anything that shows you together. Too much info is better than not enough. Good luck.

What about car insurance. Are you joint policy holders? If you are and you didn't keep previous documentation your insurance company should be able to confirm this information for you. Another idea, have you had joint holidays - perhaps the tour operator could also put something in writing?

Good luck

We turned up for our WP at NZIS and were told that our marriage certificate was not enough... The case officer got Mr Rr (as the main applicant) to write and sign a statement that he supported my application, that we were in a genuine relationship and that he would agree to support me in times of need...! He told us that photos (signed and dated by someone else), letters from friends, family, colleagues who have know you as a couple, again signed and dated, and anything with both your names on it would be useful.

We had the same problem. Partner and I have been together for 6 years now (I am so used to calling him hubby, everybody thinks I'm married)
We had no single scrap of evidence (that we knew of), to prove that we have been together even for 12 months
We did not have anything joint, or electricity bills or anything
We had both sets of parents write a letter to say we are together, and had a lawyer that we know write a letter, and send in photos, and wrote a whole long letter about why we don't have anything else, and had it notarized. And we were both living in NZ at the same address at that time (but not for the past 12 months, so apparently that does not count)

This was with decision pending, so the moment we could prove partnership, we'd be good.

So, after all we sent in, we still got a letter back that we did not have enough proof. Extremely frustrating, especially if you are in a hurry.

Finally we tracked down the addresses that the university used to send our student bills to, and it was to the same address, and we send that in, and viola, all was approved and we now have residency

So, try and find anything that was send to you both at the same address

Good luck, I can certainly sympathize :nice1
