Hi, I'm coming to auckland beginning of sept and wondering if I should try to do any immigration things while I'm there?
Also wondering about talking with potential employers while I'm there. Any ideas?
And of course anything I should absolutely not miss doing during my brief 2 week visit? Thanks all.

Im afraid its a boring suggestion - but bring with you a shopping list of stuff you generally buy in the supermarket at home. Then pop to a new world and "do a shop" on paper. You will then get a good idea of what your grocery bill is going to be.
Also, try and set up interviews before you get there. It took a good few days to sort out interviews on a trip here - and you could find you waste quite a bit of time waiting for people to get back to you.
And jump off the skytower!

I am looking ahead to a holiday/vacation/ visit myself. With my two weeks I plan to do a whole lot of research, including beat down employer's doors. I am going to have to have a job offer for my migration to be succcessful. If the job is not a neccesity for you I would think a general idea of what is available, and maybe a few lunches, or brief introductions would be enough.
I have the unfortunate position of needing to aquire a certificate, or recognition for my trade, and NZIS is not being as cooperative as I had hoped. Therefore I have to go through my trade organisation to aquire a certificate, which then reqiures a test in which I have to be physically present. I was advised to not pursue this until I am living there permanently, but I can't successfully immigrate without a job offer. Hurdle #1.
Make sure you are aware of your job prospects/ options/ limitations before you go to see employers, if you are not already. I have been to NZ already, and know it's for me, so I will just be going mainly for immigration purposes. I am not visiting until Feburary, so I will be anxious to hear about your trip. Keep us posted!
The grocery store freaks me out, good advice- especially for an American who is used to a lot of CHOICES, however in HI it may already be expensive, and more limited. Why do you want to leave Hawaii?? (I live in Kansas :)
