I'm starting to write a million letters notifying companies of our imminent departure :eek :yes Since we'll be leaving the country soon after the house completion date, is it ok to write to them in advance, with an advance date?? eg for council tax, tv licence, insurances etc so that hopefully they'd get their fingers out and make any adjustments / refunds sooner rather than later?? :?
How did those of you who've already done it handle the timings??

Hi,
When we left Scotland we did send out letters with our departure dates about 4 weeks beforehand. It was quite handy as we were sent settlement estimates too which meant we could budget for departure costs etc :nice1 I also gave them a UK address for them to use for any correspondence that might have to occur after we'd vacated the property - so perhaps you could give them your NZ address (or UK relatives address) for any subsequent correspondence. This came in handy when we heard we had a council tax refund - not sure how they'd have found us otherwise! :nice1
I basically wrote to them saying we'd be out on XX date and could they get our account settlement details in order and all, with the exception of Scottish Power, did so (as they required a final meter reading).
Hope that helps.

Also dont forget you might be entitled to a tax refund! So get you Inland Revenue form in too.
Has anyone successfully claimed back any NI or are you all hoping for UK pension???
