Why is what seems like the simplest thing the most stressful. :wah

We've been through our EOI/ITA received approval in principal, got Keith's qualification assessed electronically by the NZQA and all was well.

We send his qualifcation to NZQA who challenged the wording on his City & Guilds which Keith was told was equivalent to NVQ level 4 -

We go back to City & Guilds who verbally says, yes it is a level 4 (as we know) but they won't put it in writing... they sent as everything but the wording that this qualification is equivalent to NVQ level 4 - which is the only thing NZQA will understand.

I have myself just spoken with the administrator concerned at City & Guilds and told her that she is personally and solely stopping us from emigrating and I think if anyone is going to stop us from getting our visa it should be emigration not her...

So she has, finally, put those million dollar words in writing to us... :yes :yes :yes

We were not asking for something we don't have, they all agreed verbally. Keith took these some 10 years ago and to take them now would be totally different, and that's what she was looking at.

We are now sending her e-mail onto NZQA and fingers crossed for a successful result :P

I may have been a little immotive when speaking with C&G just now - but there was no way I was letting an administrator in London control our fate.

Stress - what stress

If you have C&G from an approved college you do not have to have them checked immgration except them if they are from a college on their list.

My husbands are over 30 years old. We have had not problem we have had our ITA.

The qualification are from City & Guilds themselves, the certificate said about it being "unit credit towards"

which was ambigious wording and suggested it was not a qualification in it's own right - what it is.

it's all been a lot of stress and hassle over nothing really (or what we hope is nothing...)

City & Guilds have been a pain in the :wah

You are right about C & G being a pain.

We had to get certificates which we 35 years old.

The cost of doing all this is a lot, but the cost of coming to NZ is also more than we were lead to believe.

Good luck hope everything goes smooth for you.

It really saddens me to hear that C&G qualifications are a pain.

I know I will get some stick about this but I guess I’m entitled to my views so here goes :eek

A little about my education I went the academic route, O-levels, A-levels and an old university education.

I attended a new university after graduation, just for further study and I was amazed at the high quality of teaching and the lack of research required by the students. Talk about spoon-fed lucky bu**ers.

My brothers entered the trades rather than an academic career and I watched as they did their C&G.

At one point in my career I was an NVQ examiner in engineering and having seen the effort that my brothers made compared with the amount of effort and knowledge needed to get an NVQ appalled me.

I really feel that the quality of education is in decline in the UK, this I think is a double edged sword.
I don’t want to criticise the hard work that people put into their studies, but I do think that the effort made by those who went through an older education system is devalued by the newer education system.

This is undoubtedly becoming recognised in the UK, for example membership of the professional body in my industry required a BEng (Hons) if you graduated when I did, but if you graduate now you need an MEng (Hons) this involves a year longer at Uni.

I also recall talking to my old A-level maths teacher, she told me about the subjects that were being dropped from the syllabus in the following year, I recall my surprise when I asked what the replacement subject was, and I was told “nothing”.

What can you say about this, you feel cheated because you had to work harder for the same qualification, but you don’t want to say to someone (who has worked really hard) that they don’t deserve the same qualification as you because they didn’t do as much work,

I can also say that having carried out interviews of prospective employees, I would favour a C&G qualification.

Rant Over :smile Bob
