I would like to hear from anyone who has had laser eye surgery.
Did you think it worked?
Was it worth the money and pain?

I had PRK laser surgery nearly 3 years ago. This is the one where they laser off the surface of your eye raher than cutting a flap in it. At the time it cost £2k and was worth every penny. If you want any specific details, PM me.

I had Lasix (?) surgery 3 years ago) done by Ultralase. Best move I ever made. Cost about 1700 per eye.
Now I did have a slight problem after the surgery, in that a tiny peice of lint was caught on the surface of the eye hear the cut, and it hurt like hell. But the staff at ultralase were brilliant at sorting it out. It took a few days - which meant I wasnt able to work, and I had to wear a contact lens to cover it up.
I have also been left with dry eyes. However - I did have quite dry eyes anyway - and when I went for the initial consultaition, they do a test on your "tear film". At that time, they explained it was a likely result of surgery and that I would probably end up needing to use eye drops occasionally.
I do, but I dont find it a problem. If I get tired my eyes get really gritty, but its only slightly worse than before the surgery.
Bear in mind though - although the surgery is quick, you may be under thier care for check ups for about a year. Also, it seems to be slightly cheaper in NZ - Im trying to persuade my hubby to haev it done!

I also have had it done.
my previous prescription was -2.5 and -1.75. I had Lasix (sp) in 2000 at Ultralase, same as Avalon, cost £1,750 in total as they had a 50% off offer on or what I called a BOGOF (buy one get one free). Once done my eyesight was perfect as Avalon said best thing I ever spent money on.
- I could now see if my kids were waving at my or drowning when swimming.
- I was also drying and dressing the right kids in the changing rooms rather than everyone elses who just happened to be the same size as mine with the same colour hair.
It is also known to cause dry eyes so be aware of this as I wasn't told, but you can get drops to ease dry's eyes so it's no big drawback.
It was only when I went back to my optician in Nov 2004 because my eyesight had deterioted slightly as I noticed this more driving at night.
I now wear specs again but only a mild prescription for driving and can manage more without them than with them. They don't guarantee it will last forever. I believe because I do so much pc work and close up work has cause my eyesight to deteriorate quicker than normal.
I wouldn't say don't have it done because about 5 of my friends have had it done based on me raving about it and I certainly don't regret having it done.
No it is getting cheaper also. It certainly gave me a new lease of life and my eyesight is still much better than it was.
So IMHO.............GO FOR IT.

Interesting. I thought it would be expensive but compared to what I spend on glassses and prescription sunglasses, covers the last 5 years spending in opticians.
I hate wearing glasses and need them for nightime/driving/long distance/spotting people waving at me and they are forever up on the top of my head in the day working at the pc. I'm allergic to contact lenses and solutions etc. :(
Anyone any idea of the cost in NZ please? Anyone had it 'performed' in NZ.
(she says hoping she won't have the time to have it done here in UK :raebanana )

someones husband is an optician in NZ. I can't for the life of me think of their name.
I think they were aScottish family but I could be wrong.
I would imagine it would be cheaper here (UK) as there is more competition and more people with more disposal income to compete for it.

Oh thank you, that rings bells, I remember a thread on the cost of eye tests and glasses. I'll search. ................
