So, we had always fancied going but Creelara-ette Jnr hasn’t been well. So we decide to leave it late before contacting Veronica and saying we would be coming. Moorf had sent us a PM with the address and contact information, so that’s fine, I can refer to that when I have to.
While we are out on Saturday afternoon, we decide to go for it – yay a party! The only number I have is for Moorf so I phone her and ask to let Veronica know on our behalf. The plan is that as soon as I get home I will get the contact details from that PM that Moorf sent me.
Do you see where this is going?
When I get home, it seems the forum is unavailable. No worries, I’ll try again later.
So it is now 7.30 and we are all ready to leave. An effort has been made by everyone and I even have a shave, not bad for a weekend. Only problem, I don’t actually know where to go. Forum is still unavailable. Wait a minute, didn’t Moorf say something about a Backpackers on Gloucester street. I’m sure that was it. Okay, how hard can this be, there can’t be that many surely.
The following scene was performed on five separate occasions between 8.00pm and 9.30pm at different locations on Gloucester St…..
(Creelara and family enter backpacker reception dressed for party and carrying plastic bags full of the proverbial ‘wine and nibbles’).
Creelara : Hello, we’re meeting some friends here for the party?
Receptionist : Party eh? What was the name?
C : Veronica?
R : Veronica What?
C : I don’t know.
R : What does she look like?
C : I don’t know that either. We are on an internet forum, we’re having a get together.
R : And you’re looking for Veronica?
C : Well probably, unless that is her web pseudonym, in which case I don’t know her name.
R : But she lives here?
C : I think so, I’m sure it was backpackers on Gloucester St.
R : Well, we aren’t the only one, the next one is further along….
C : Right, okay, that’s where I want to be then. Thank you.
As I say, we gave up after five of these. I blame myself (and so does my wife and kids). When we got home the forum was back but it's taken me until now to get my login sorted out.
So, Veronica, I am really sorry we missed this, it wasn’t for the want of trying. Let me assure you, I never commit to an engagement unless I’m sure to be coming, I regard it as the height of bad manners to let people down in this way.
