Hi folks,

Thanks to the arrival of our ITA pack yesterday we now have a raft of things to do in terms of getting everything together.

The big one being medicals...
Anyone know a good (read cheap) Doctor in the north east?

Also, how much are we looking at having to pay for 2 adults 2 kids (5 and 3).

Last question how do the panel doctors react to fat blokes?
I myself being adequately proportioned but fit, with low cholesterol and excellent blood pressure.

Answers on a postcard please?

Cheers
Tony

Hi tony, I believe that the medical costs are fixed (not sure though) there are a few extras like blood tests etc that add on. We paid about 450 all in for the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children). There is also another thread running on BMI that would give you some useful info on weight.

I'm not sure though whether that thread is specifically talking about work permits and whether it applies to PR also.

You can find the list of approved NZ medicals doctors on the NZIS site.

Cheers
Paul

Hi there,
Medical costs are definatly not fixed, shop around there was a huge diffence in price when we booked ours in the SE. You will pay more for the convience of going to an all in place but many Dr have Xray close by. We were £332 for xray and medical for 2 adult and 2 children (2 & 4 Yrs). £510 was the most expencive one I found local to us. We are are having the medical this Thur so I will let you know if we have any nasty extras to pay for.

Paul, where abouts are you in Teesside?
We are just into the North York Moors National Park - so one foot in N.Yorks and one in Teesside !!

We are in middlesbrough, there wasn't much choice locally for doctors. We went for X-rays on marton road in middlesbrough and medicals at North Ormesby (bloody awful place!).

We had our medicals done in Huddersfield at a practice in Lindley (just off the M62 motorway). Excellent service and x-rays done at the Bupa down the road and then sent to the Doctor's to be collected. Cost £50 per xray (only needed the adults), and the medicals for 2 children and 2 adults were £300.

The practice in Huddersfield is The Lindley group practice - Dr's Mason and Mason, Parker and Parker - (two married couples share the practice) It is really easy to find and the Bupa hospital is five minutes away.
I think Kate (K & CS) used them too. I have no experience with them for the medicals (haven't got that far yet) but they are excellant doctors - have to say that cos they are ours!!

If you choose them and want directions send me a pm - and you can always call at ours for a cuppa we only live round the corner!!

hello, first time on forum:-)

ITA received 23/08/05

Has any one got any info on practices that will do the medicals on the South side of the Humber? I have seen that there are 2 in Hull, accross the bridge, but it means a fiver to cross and taking the day off for all of us.

thanks in advance

Hi Kat and Bob

Absolutely no help on Northern Panel Doc's at all but want to say welcome to the forum. :clap

It might cost a fiver for the bridge but have you tried calling round and getting some prices, as the cost varies from doc to doc.

Cardiff Irons and his family on this forum saved ( and will correct me ) a couple of hundred quid including the drive from Cardiff to Manchester and a hotel ( I think)

Anyways up, where are you heading for in NZ? Whats your timescale?

Welcome

Deborah

Hi there and welcome Katandbob :cheers
We did indeed travel to the splendid Dr Million in Manchester, staying overnight and saved nigh on £600 against the charges in South Wales!! If you search for "medicals", there's loads of info on this forum, but do make sure you shop around.
Good luck!

hello gill & Smiler.

Our timescale is unfortunately dependent on my kids :-(

The eldest my daughter has been planning her wedding since last year, she gets married on the 13th May 06 (day she met her fiance) and so we will be staying for that, and also they are presenting me with my first granchild for xmas (or new yr! ;-) )

then the Youngest is due to sit his GCSE's in May/June 06, so we decided to wait till he gets his results in August.

We plan on spending a few mths touring to see where we would like to settle but my hubby bob has already had a few offers of employment in the Christchurch area, he is a Sheetmetal worker/ Fab/welder.

But on the good side, he is earning big bucks at the min on a contract that should last till xmas, and we have had an offer on the house, so we will be able to save some money before we arrive, my mother in law is an angel and we are moving in with them!

I want to live somewhere where I can have a horse, maybe a riding school or livery yard, as I never want to be chained to a desk again!

cheers

Hi Kat

Sounds like you've got a good plan and timescale there even if it is dependent on the kids. And jobs offer too!

Good luck and keep posting too, you'll find masses of help on here if you need it.

Thanks Gil & Deborah,

I have just cleared our loft :(

The tip will have a fit when it sees me coming tomorrow !!

I sorted through all the kids pictures I had kept since they started drawing and I will set about scanning them in soon.

I found 2 Pelham puppets (mouse and cat) up there, so do ya think I'll get anything for them on ebay??

Rachels taking the baby books for 'Cole' when he arrives in Dec :-)

and there are 7 bin bags of soft toys to take to the car boot!

I am going to ring up the panel drs next week and get quotes - my bosses are out of the office so I will be by my self for the whole week :clap

oh well just a few hrs left of the weekend! :no

Wow Kat you certainly haven't sat around on a sunday. :laugh Well done.

Lucky you. I didn't find any pelhams :wah or infact anything of value. Well not in ours, but Mum and Dad's loft was different and it's all been on eBay this week. Love it!! Sending my carp round the world and I nearly offered to hand deliver to the buyer in Oz too, but I didn't think she would believe me.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and the next week too.......;)
