Right. I understand that Sky+ is not an option in NZ (making me wobble very seriously - how can you live without Sky+ ;) ).

So, what are the options for recording TV programmes? Surely not the old VCR?

I assume DVD recorders work in NZ, but what about DVDs with hard disks?

I just can't comprehend having to set timers for recording TV - I thought those days were well behind me :( .

NOBODY told me that

I can't live, if living is without Sky plus ( sung to the tune of Harry Nilsson whilst weeping gently into keyboard)

Smiler soon to be without Sky+

Hubby did read somewhere (on the net so it must be true :D ) that sky + may be coming at the end of the year.

To be honest there is not much worth recording, but we got the old UK VCR out last night to test it would work off sky so hubby could record tne Man U game on Sat (as we will be in bed by then) and it worked fine, so I would assume DVD recorders would work. I am also pretty sure that dvd are not region coded for here, or it they are they work in any machine anyway.

Life without Sky+ took a little bit of getting used to. I still reach for the remote control to pause Tv when I want make coffee. (for those in the US, Sky+ is like TiVo). They've never heard of down here, I was telling folks at work about it, and they were astonished.

It's offical Sky+ will be here in December, it will have a 160gb disk, with a built in DVD burner. (From the sky web site)

With a VCR you can only record the sky channel that you're watching. You can't go out and record programs from 2 different sky channels. It sucks.

DVD recorders will be fine, but I'd hang back a few months and get Sky+

t's just the convience factor, for shows on late at night,

Have to alugh as you are assuming there will be stuff to watch on tv !!! :laugh :laugh :laugh

Its mostly teh current US dramas which are good and if you miss one its easy to catch up ... or UK / Beeb dramas that were on about 12 months ago.

the stop and pause thing sounds good but thats about it.
IMO apart from the sports channels and maybe the films theres not much extra you get from sky compared to the regular 5 channels you get for free anyway.

.............probably, I'm sick and tired of his moaning ;)

Yeah - nice in principle, but during Winter and after a hard day at work, I bet you reach for the remote quite often!:)

Well, I certainly feel a lot better now - Sky+ in December, yippee :raebanana :raebanana

I appreciate that there may not be much to watch. For me it's mostly about any live sports (especially football, err, I mean soccer). Much as I'd like to sit up until 3.00am to watch West Ham play, I think a Sky+ record for watching at a civilised time the next day might be more appropriate.

Although I'm not sure how I'll avoid finding out the result before I watch it :D (the irony of that last comment was totally lost on my wife, who peeked over my shouder and said "who's going to tell you?" :roll ).

Nope - can't remember the last time I recorded anything! I used to watch the big US dramas, but they go on for so long you really get sucked into being a couch potato so we quit cold turkey. Now I'd rather read a good book ;-)

We wanted to record something in the UK 2-3 years ago, couldnt find a blank tape, VHS recorder has been nothing bar a clock for 4+ years.

With sky if you miss something its on again next week anyhow. Tho I may need to record EPL football rather than stay up all night to watch.

JoSimple Jo, us guys are just good at multi-tasking. Many's the time I've managed to conduct a conversation with my better half whilst simultaneously breathing, holding a pint of beer (full) and watching footie (sorry soccer :roll ) on the box.:D

If you're emigrating to NZ and intend to watch lots of TV please ensure you bought a return plane ticket and don't sell your house back "home"

Jon
