Well we have been here a week now and all is good , we have bought a house (cash) move in next week , got a car and best of all I got a job that pays more than I earned in the UK all without, CV's, Quallies , etc the guy wasnt even interested in seeing the reference from my last employer , as he said " you can write any bulls**t on paper", I start for 3 days next week and once we have moved in I will go fulltime .
the job is for a Welder/Fitter which I have never worked as before but I can weld any thing that can be welded so no fear there I will be making wrought iron gates, balustrades, swimming pool fences etc , the pay is $20 ph to start going up to $30 ph after a trial period,
As we walk along Orewa beach in t shirt and jeans in winter we just keep pinching each other as it seems too surreal
Oh well were off to but tv's, fridge/freezer,washing machine etc etc ....Oh and a Spa pool

Hi Wayne
We are both glad to hear that you have settled down so unbelievably quickly and got a fab job toboot!I can't believe that you are there now after seeing you roar off on your bike just a few weeks ago.
We have sold our house at last !!!so (fingers crossed) will be up and away by mid October. One question , how were Johnson & Jarrett ? We were impressed by the chap who came to give us the spiele and were going to book them but we then heard a few bad reports.Your opinion would be useful.
Carry on the good work ,say Hi to Trudy for us and keep in touch

We have bought in Red Beach and will post some pics when we get our own computer, Jordan & Jarret we cannot praise enough they packaged everything so well and were very helpful, our stuff will not be here until early september so we cannot vouch for the outfit at this end yet.

Well done Wayne ...... sounds like you've taken the bull by the horns. I'm right up there with you mate ..... can't be doing with hanging around, jump right in - that's what I say. We too have bought a house (but alas have had a few weeks in this crummy rental first). Bet you can't wait for the Harley to arrive, Mark has already been into the local HD dealership for a sneaky look - NZ roads are just made for a Heritage I reckon.

Looking forward to seeing your pics of the house.

Keep us posted.

Hi Wayne
Did you have any probs getting a work permit/PR due to having no quals or paid work experience in welding. my other half can "weld anything" but is in same boat as you in terms of no quals/paid experience.
Would be very interested to know as we are coming to NZ in Nov. and he thought it would be difficult to find work due to his lack of 'official, on-paper' ability to do the jobs he is very much capable of.
Also, where is Orewa? Sure we've been there before but can't remember where it is. Is it on east coast, north of auckland (sorry, map downstairs and can't be bothered to run down and get it!!!)

Hannah, Wayne didn't need a job to get residency in NZ as he is married to me, Trudy, and I'm a New Zealander. The man that gave Wayne the welding job comes from the UK, so I think that Wayne had the job as soon as he walked into the place. His boss even knows where we come from Whitstable as he used to holiday there! Regards Trudy

Hi Hannah I'm a fully qualified welder in the UK also a qualified teacher ,and panelbeater , but here in NZ qualifications do not count for much as they dont ask to look at them , he just showed me the work and said "do you think you can do it" and when I said yes it was all hand shakes and start when you want

Hi Wayne,

Nice one, good to hear your getting on, just like to add I really liked seeing the comment " you can write any bulls**t on paper".

Its so true, if you say you can do it lets see you do it, is a much better approach.
