Does anybody know if my OH can teach in New Zealand if she completes the Primary PGCE in UK and then heads over as soon as it's finished?

The reason I ask is that someone mentioned to me that she would have to do a year in a school after completing the PGCE in order to obtain QTS.

Not as far as I am aware. I too am a trainee teacher. You would be better doing a pgce (it's not called that in NZ) over in NZ.

The problem is that your primary pgce is based on the English curriculum and therefore you will have had no training in the NZ curriculum. Also when you are looking for a first job an employer will automatically choose the teacher who has trained in the NZ schooling system. A colleague of mine has completed her degree over here (degree with QTS) but she is doing the pgce equivalent over there before she can start work!

Hope this is of use - don't want to sound negative or anything (I am having to leave my course part way through and transfer credits to NZ in order to pick up my degree - very long winded and frustrating!!!!!)
