Hi, does anyone know if there are many/any renaults out there. We have a Laguna and don't want to let go. I had thought that they would be less likely to be supportable for spares etc over there but would like to know if anyone has come across service centres/spares/dealerships or even any cars!
Cheers
Paul

I know there is a pergout (sp??) dealer so there may well be a Renaults dealer. I don't really like french cars tbh so haven't looked...
As parts / spares are crazy expesnive for renaults in the UK I would hate to think how much they would cost be over here.
European cars aren't that common, there maybe more up north but down here in southern man land its all 4wd and trucks. :)

There are Renaults in NZ, and the Laguna is one model that they have here.

We brught our Renault 21 out in 1996 - kept it for 6 years but got rid of it in the end because we were so sick of waiting weeks on end for parts from France.
What we used to do in the end was ring our local garage in the UK where we had bought the car - and get them to post parts out to us!
It was crazy.
I can't say I'd recommend it......

Hi Paul
You're not alone, we are in a bit of a tizz too about taking the car. I wasn't fussed on taking it but Gary really wants to.
I found the Peugeot dealer in Welly but I guess that's no guarantee of parts and as a main dealer prob expensive. To replace it with an equivilant peugeot out there would be about $20-26,000 from a dealer  . I'm happy as long as I got a halfway decent reliable car though.
Gary would also commute by motorbike so it would be the main car for me (apart from my bike too)
I got rough insurance quotes based on our clean history here, $700 for AKL and $500 for Welly.
Bikes would be about $350 each ( for Transalp and CB500S) in ALK or W.
We are still unsure what to do, if we ship it then we have to hire a car for 6-8 weeks until our one gets there, or buy a motor bike and move into a rental wallace and gromit 'sheep pyramid stylie' We may well break the world record for the amount of cuft carried on a bike though.
PLUS all the whistling through teeth from SOME removal quoters ( one who told me the price of timber prohibited them building a frame above the car in the container, to utilise all that expensive EMPTY space)
Decisions decisions.....

I posted this in a different thread a while ago:
We brought a Renault 21 GTS with us a few years ago.
The cost of second hand cars dropped just after we got here so it was not worth as much as originally estimated.
I did a lot of research before bringing it. Checked the price of parts etc and found that, being a european car, the parts were about 10% more than the UK and quite a lot more expensive than the 'local' cars. Hey! I can live with that , I've got a good european car. Not!
What they don't tell you is that they do not keep the parts on the shelf. Due to the smaller market and the number of different parts, they generally order the parts in when needed. Great.
Unfortunately, they were ordering from France. I ended up ringing up the main dealer in the UK where I bougnt the car, giving him credit card details and getting him to send the parts from the UK. The dealers here were giving me a delivery time of 2-3 weeks. I was getting them from the UK in 5 days and then getting them to fit them.
It meant that everytime I needed work done on the car, it was a week to 10 days off the road. Great if you have a second car but useless if it is your only transport.
You cannot survive without transport here unless you live in the central city area's so I would think very hard before bringing a european car.
Another problem I found was they only order in complete units. The plastic bush on the brake pedal went on my 21. They could only order in a complete pedal and the full mechanism. A quick phone call to the UK dealer and the bush was on it's way.
(By the way - The Renault and Peugeot main dealers in Wellington are the same garage).
If you are coming to Wellington, leave the Renault in the UK. My dealings with Supreme in Wellington were not good. I got them to replace the clutch in the 21.
I booked the car in with assurances that they could do it in one day. Dropped the car off at 7.30am, rang them up at 3.00pm to check on progress to be told that it would be ready to pick up at 4.30pm. When I got there at 5.00pm, they hadn't even started it. I was going away for the weekend and they expected me to take the car away and bring it back on the Monday. If they had told me they hadn't started it at 3.00pm I could have made other arrangements but at 5.00 it was too late. They told me they didn't have another car available and just stood there expecting me to just accept it and walk away. One hour later I was driving out of the showroom with a new car for the week-end. It took a lot of aurgueing and I had to demand to speak to the top boss before getting resolution.
My advise..... Leave the Laguna in the UK.

Thanks Kenny
I knew I had read your post before but couldn't find it on search. We would be using the same garage ( or NOT) if we bring our Peugeot
Does anyone know if anyone has shipped their car 'successfully'?
Thanks

Hi Paul
I guess I would agree with the majority and sell it here.
Just think yourself lucky I'm going to have to do the same with my trusty 2 yr old top of the range dogs bo****s Rover 75 as its got more computers in it than PC World and I guess spares and servicing are definately going to be a problem especially as I think they sold about 10 in NZ!!
God I can't bear to think of the depreciation and what I'm going to loose selling it (Sob!)
