Hi

well with regards to the land I have got my eye on buying/breeding alpacas and Andy is swotting up on hazelnut trees as we speak!!

might rent some out at first while we get established.

Kids have also put their orders in and I absolutely must have a pig (a very sad but true ambition of mine!!)

Lovely place.

We have a lot of alpacas near us.

A property like that where we live would cost at least $1,000,000 if not a good bit more.

Great place Lisa you lucky things! A pig is also on my kids list of things to have together with chilckens and a pony!
How long will it take Andy to get to work from there?.Whe I mentioned to my rellys in Belfast that we might look for a place in Darfield they had a complete fit and said that we would never be able to see anyone cos we were so far away!I think the Kiwis look upon distance very differently! Funnily enough it now looks like we may be in Wellington anyway cos of Pauls job!
Are there local schools for the kids and what are they like?
Very best of luck

Hi Lisa and Andy

Fab place. Look forward to hearing about the alpaca farming! And I believe pigs make really good pets, not that I'm after one though. Glad to see you guys are really settling in.

Hi denise

it should take Andy about an hour we think to get to work but hopefully the fact that he can be fishing at Ashley Gorge in 10 mins will make it worth his while and make the journey home seem more bearable - mind you it is one straight road for about half of it so not too taxing.
The local school is an area one so although they have got to move again once thay have done so thats it then no more changes until they leave and they will all be in the same place which is always a bonus, its a small school about 475 pupils from 5 - leaving age. Its probably about a 10 min drive from the house but may investigate the bus at a later date.
Its funny you saying about your rellies - we were in a cafe (AGAIN!!) in Oxford and there were 2 kiwi couples sitting on the next table saying that the english don't mind commuting because they are used to it and how kiwis all like to work on the doorstep unfortunately not many job opportunities for Andy on the doorstep at the moment!! we're working on it though!!
Is it definite that you will be in Welly now, we had a drive through Darfield and quite liked it. (had lunch in a cafe there too I don't think theres many left for us to try now!!!!)
anyway keep us posted

Should be OK as long as I can go fishing every night :)
