Just talked to our buyers, their buyers mortgage offer should have reached their solicitors today and aletter sent to their buyers which details that fact that they must go in and sign before the 31st.
Cost that's our proposed completion date!
Anything could happen. I don't know how I am going to cope witht the stress if I have to wait until next tuesday afternoon to find out if they have signed and if we are going to exchange and complete the next day!
Let alone the fact that i can't even book a van to move out ourselves without knowing in advance that everything is going to go ahead.
Looks like I am going to have to pay out about 500 quid this weekend to rent a storage unit and empty the house in the hope that they will complete/exchange.
Did I mention that they were going on holiday to india on the 4th september! They have mentioned that they did not want to complete until the returned at the end of september (my job starts on the 3rd october), but hopefully the combined weight of everyone else in the process will carry them through to completion.
We have agreed with our buyers that they can offer for us to pay their first months mortgage if they are unwilling to exchange and complete before they go, so we do have a backup plan.
All this is extra money and worry though!
I thought that I was alleviating a worry by getting a job offer before arriving in NZ not creating more hassle and worry.
These things can go on and on and at every point trip you up.

You have summed it up Mental Torture. I hope it all goes to plan for you. I know what you mean about the job offer. I had mine over a year ago and the housesale fell through twice thus am still here and need to get over before the PR runs out in November.
Glad you have a back up plan. It really is a nightmare and I dont know about you but I just dont sleep easy at night with the worry.
Anyway best of luck and let us know how you get on.

I have and I've found it works a treat :cheers:cheers
Seriously, keep the faith mate. As the Undertones famously sung "It's gonna happen".:nice1

I know exactly what you are going through. We had all this 'will they won't they' drama for months. We had to delay our departure from May to July - then a week before we were due to fly out we still weren't totally sure whether we would or not. In the end we threw caution to the wind and left the Uk without completing on the sale of the house.
The mental torture and the stress was extreme. I firmly believe it took a lot of the shine off the proceedings, robbed me of the chance to have a relaxed last few weeks with my family and caused the first few weeks in NZ to be a period full of stress and worry.
However, against all the odds everything fell into place at the 11th hour. I never believed it would - but it did.
What I'm trying to say is - keep the faith. It's pointless telling you not to worry because I know you will continue to do so, but try not to let the house worries take over everything else. And believe me - when everything does finalise the feeling is orgasmic !!!!!!!!!! Am I allowed to say that?
Good luck, fingers crossed for you and it won't be long before you're over here too. We're looking forward to meeting you.
Chin up.

Sympathy for you too - we didn't sell a house but we did accept jobs here in NZ and suffered in the subsequent panic to get visas / permits etc organised in time to actually start them when we had agreed to. I think that this process is is so chaotic and there are so many variable that you have just no control over, that it is always going to feel like a bit of a white knuckle ride at times. And it doens't get any better for the first few months over here, when you are trying to sort out all kinds of house / rental / car / issues... and tie up the remains of you life at home (it took us a year to finally change all our adress details with various banks etc!). But 6 months from now you will (hopefully) look back on all this and say 'Thank **** that's over, pass me another beer". Hope it all goes smoothly, R

Thanks everyone, Just been out and brought the entire gardens contents into the house, chairs tables, BBQ and yes even my motorbike! (linda will be pleased when she gets in!). Well I'm not going to let some OIK come back tonight for the lot.
Also had a phonecall from our buyer, apparently their buyer does not want to complete before going on holiday for 3 weeks in September because they will have to pay their last months notice and also their first month's mortgage. Yeah, I know, who doesn't!
Anyway Plan B swept quickly into place and they jumped at the chance for us to pay their first month's mortgage (glad I primed all the key players in advance about this).
I however, made the proviso that instead of signing on Tuesday and exchanging and completing on Wednesday (31st), they need to sign tomorrow, exchange Friday and still complete on Wednesday.
They complained about not getting time off work to do so, but we were insitent, so hopefully that will happen.
Also forced my line manager's hand today. He was insistent that I had to give him 4 weeks notice, and what with the uncertainty about next Wednesday it looked like it was going to be the 31st before I could put my notice in (at best).
So I e-mailed him, personnel and his line manager, saying I was stressed to the point of distraction at work over the whole situation and I would appreciate them considering accepting less than 4 weeks notice so...."that I could finish my work in a planned and professional manner".
Anyway they all took the bait and tomorrow we will discuss and arrange my leaving date based on my notice going in next Wednesday.
Still to complete on all of these things (as well as moving-out and into storage over the weekend and taking our cats to the cattery to be re-homed on Monday.
Think I'll head for the fridge and take Cardiff's suggestion
to heart.
Thanks to everyone, please keep your fingers crossed etc.

Hope it all works out for you. And I thought I was having a bad day (and its only 10.30am).
Have you asked the new job if you can delay starting????
Alan was supposed to start a new job on the 1st of december, then we got that put back to the 17th december, then we hit a problem with flights and couldnt get out till 31st december, so we asked if he could start on the 10th Jan. They saidf yes.
It may take some of the pressure off you if you can get it!

Hi
can sympathise with you although we didn't have job offers we didn't complete on our house until the day before we flew out which was a Sat so had anything gone wrong we would have been more than slightly on edge (or more so than we were anyway having sent all our wordly goods about a week and a half before) !
I'm sure it will all be OK and at least you don't have the worry of not being able to find work once here - am not sure what is worse really worrying about not getting a job or worrying about being able to start on time !!!
Where will you be working?
take care and it will all seem surreal once you get on that plane !!! i still can't really believe I'm here.

Has any one actually managed to sell a house in an easy-going time frame????
It took from start August right up till the 22nd December for ours to go through (flight out on 27th December!)

I know it sounds daft after what I've written above ..... but YES we have.
We sold to buyer number 2 who stepped in at the last minute. From day 1 to completion that sale took 7 weeks. Not bad eh.
Keep the faith !!!!!

Update:
Apparently the our buyers-buyers have been in to the solicitors today and signed, at least they have said that they have.
And, conveniently, they appear to have given us the wrong figure for their first months mortgage, not 418 but 569 pounds.
Our buyers, seeing this as an obvious and shamefull lie bargained on our behalf down to 500 pounds.
Our buyers are not wholly convinced that their buyers have in fact signed everything required so I'm calling in at their solicitors in the morning, both to get proof that everything is progressing and that we will exchange tomorrow and also so that I can lodge the cheque (post-dated to after the completion date of course).
I think that it is obvious the type of buyer that we are dealing with here, these are the modern day criminals, they will steal the money from your pocket if you deal with them.
You have all been warned.
