As you prob know, I am currently doing a course in Feature Writing via the London School of Journalism...
I'd like some experience and, because I am cheeky, I wondered if anyone here on the forum works for, or knows someone who works for, a newspaper or magazine here in Chch or NZ that could give me some work experience... I'll do it for free ;)
Well... had to ask!

Hell Moorf,
You have just done a life changing thing that so many Poms would love to do, you have written some truly interesting columns here for a start, if you havent kept a diary you have all your previous posts here to look back on, why not write a weekly column for an English newspaper, local or national, but you will probably do better locally. Who knows it could be syndicated !!! Think about all the people here and on other sites, desperate for information, and you have been there and done that, you will probably be able to draw on other peoples experiences too. Let us know how you get on.
All the best

Try sending an article to the destination New Zealand Paper your input would definately make an interesting read for all those wanting to make the same journey that we have. Or better still how about a book????? ;)

Hi Moorf
Why don't you contact The Press? What about contacting one of the magazines like North and South? Have you seen that magazine yet - really good journalism in there - very good, indepth and well researched articles. If I were you, I would go and look at all the journals available, get to know what is out there and what kiwis and migrants are reading. Perhaps visit the library - ChCh library highly recommended - I particularly like the New Brighton one. I would make a list of all the editors and contact each one offering your free service. Hey - what about printing all your million posts - Moorf's Mag!! Get a few thousand copies and distribute them to all and sundry! That would certainly get your name known in NZ!
(PS You little belter finding wholemeal pasta!! I have sent you a PM....)

Aww thanks for your kind comments - I wouldn't necessarily rate my ramblings on this forum as a showcase for my writing :laugh I just type as the thoughts come on here!
Your suggestions are great and I shall be woo-ing editors in the very near future ... and as for a book I've already been sketching some ideas for that ;)
Haven't seen North and South yet - will seek it out... :nice1
I'll check to see if there are any writers clubs too - that may also help me meet people, Woz will meet others at work but as I am not going to go into paid work I need a way in... am signing up for Yoga lessons tomorrow which will mean I get to meet others too :nice1 and the yoga venue is just 2 doors down so I can't moan it's toooo far!! :laugh
Any gals in Chch want to join me?

Hey Moorf, thanks for all your great posts.
Arts and lifestyle publication "The Package" is always looking for contributions. They have a CHCH version and a Welly version, but I think these share content frequently. The Package features reviews of NZ and international art, music and theater, as well as interviews with local and international musicians and artists.
Check out www.thepackage.co.nz
And I think they accept sublissions by email. Easy as!
