Hi

We are curently at the stage of our EOI saying successful on the site but not having received anything else yet. The reason I am posting is that I was wondering do they check on the medicals that the dreaded S***R
tests are up to date as usual have been putting mine off!!! Perhaps I will have to book up if questions will be asked I can probably manage to suffer the extreme embarrasment in a good cause!!! :wah

Anyway love to hear from any of you.

Lisa :P

Lisa

Lie back and think of New Zealand !!!!!

Sorry but yeah - I had to provide a copy of my latest smear test results.

A little embarrasment is a small price to pay. Come on now - be a big brave girl.

Lisa - they don't specifically check on this.

On a more serious note... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't put off your s***r any longer... I put mine off for just 1 year due to moving/work/any other excuse I could find. I'd always been totally clear and fine in the past with no other gynea probs of ANY kind at all.

I finally got round to making the appt last July and it came back abnormal and I have since had to go through surgery etc... I am only 36 (35 at the time).

DON'T put if off any longer... not only that but wouldn't you prefer to know you were coming out here healthy and fit?

Sorry for the lecture... but you know it makes sense.

Diny - sorry if my post contradicted yours - they did not ask for ANY of my s***r results, even though I declared my op etc and abnormal results.

Diny

No need to apologise Moorf.

Probably just different requirements depending on which doc you see. I didn't originally take a copy of my test with me, but was told I had to produce it before the completed medical reports would be sent to me. I went to my doc and got a copy of the test results and then posted them off to the clinic doing my medical.

Also - I second your advice. You have a very sensible attitude.

Now Lisa... I have got my nurses' hat on and as a smear taker I strongly recommend you have one without delay!! It is a life saver and the embarrasment is such a small price to pay for piece of mind. I didn't have to provide any details on my medical form - think it was a question I just answered yes to - being up to date. I don't remember any questions from Dr on it.

If you are coming to Christchurch, then I can recommed a smear taker - ME!! I am soon to be running a dedicated clinic and I can promise you I AM THE BEST!! Gentleness, tact, maintaining dignity are my speciality - I am also very modest..... :angel :raebanana
Seriously, you should definately get a smear done. Have you had children - if so, phew piece of cake after that, hey? Even if you haven't had children, it really is not so bad - there are worse things to go through - like having radiopaque dye injected under your knee cap for diagnostic purposes - now that DOES hurt and is slightly embarrassing - especially when you haven't shaved your legs for a month - but I won't digress....
Good luck with your EOI!

Sue

PS why is my banana not dancing??

Have been trying to pm you but it keeps cutting me off half way through so will try later.

Bye Lisa

What a bummer ........ wonder why I was sent away and told to produce my smear results before anything could proceed.

Thankfully I wasn't charged extra for them.

Either way - get it done !!

There are definitely worse procedures to endure. I don't find this test embarassing - unless I've forgotten to shave my legs! - but it does feel a little weird. Pediatricians give little kids lollipops after exams, so why don't gynecologists give us chocolate after our exams?

Mine does. Nice little chocolate truffles from the best confectionery in the area: See's Candies!! She's so cool!!

Lisa, please add my gently shaking finger to the crowd -- get this done!! I had an advanced dysplasia found when I was 27 years old (was a prolific smoker at the time and that probably had something to do with it.. quit for a long time now), and was only steps away from cervical cancer. Not a very survivable thing. I never miss a smear, now, because I know how much is at stake. Ditto on those mammograms (for us ladies who are old enough to have them done)!!

Get your feet in those stirrups, girl!!

Preventively yours, Rae

This one is will really make you laugh all the way to the smear nurse.

There was an email going around work about this.
:clap
In Aus there was a radio competition on 'Your most embarrassing moment'
and a lady phoned in. This was her story as told in her words.

I had an appointment at the gyny (male) at 10am for the usual check up, so I thought great I can get the kids off to school get back for 8.45 have a shower and get very clean down there and set off for 9.30 in plenty of time.

Well at 8am on the morning of the appointment the gyny's secretary rang to say could I come in at 9.15am as he was required in surgery at the time of my appointment. "No problem," I replied trying not to sound panicked as I had just realised I had not had a shower and needed quite some freshening up if you know what I mean. So I grabbed the flannel and gave it a rub before rushing the kids in the car to take them to school.

When I got to the gyny's clinic I lay when it was my turn as usual pretending I was somewhere exotic like Paris :eek (her words not mine).

"My My you have made an effort today" said my gyny. Thinking it must smell really fresh I replied "As ever for you Dr".

I carried on with my usual duties that day cleaning shopping washing ironing, picked the kids up from school made dinner etc.

At 6pm that evening my 6 year old screamed at me hysterically down stairs asking where the flannel was by the side of the sink. "Oh I washed it today darling don't worry get another out of the cupboard".

"I can't" she sobbed. "That had all my GLITTER AND SPARKLES in it" :eek :eek :eek

Well I hope that cheers you all up about going to have that smear next time around.

To all of you PLEASE PLEASE get your smear test done. But can I also add that if possible try and get it taken with a brush rather than the old wooden spatula method. I believe the new method to be far more accurate.

At the age of 35 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer, it was caught early and I was "lucky" to get a way with a Hysterectomy and then go on to make a full recovery.

Its an old saying but don't die of embarrassment.

:nice1 Michelle glad that you made a full recovery, I had a smear test done just before leaving UK had to phone for results hour before we left for airport All clear!!

I hate having them done and I am sure that the nurse who did the last one was a butcher in disguise, never had any problems before but she was a cow.

All girlies out there keep it up, it is for our benefit but don't you just hate it.

Just out of interest does anyone know what the test interval is here in NZ

Found a very useful website - HealthyWomen.org (http://www.healthywomen.org.nz). It's a combined site for BreastScreen Aotearoa and the National Cervical Screening Programme. The NCSP advises getting a cervical smear every three years starting at age 20 and continuing until age 70 (assuming no abnormalities are found - in that case, have it done more frequently).

I've been getting them yearly because it's a regular part of the annual well-woman exam. It only takes a few minutes and a wee bit of embarassment (and Jo, I haven't stopped laughing yet!) in exchange for peace of mind and maybe more.

It's about time for me to schedule the next exam, in fact. I'd better buy some glitter first... :laugh

Well ladies, I dunno too much about them ol' masectomys and hysterectomys, but I tell ya, I've had one MASSIVE vasectomy!
Embarrassment? You lot don't know y' born!
Child birth you say...HA, walk in the park, you want to try having a butcher with a 18" set of pincers and a 2 foot long soldering iron start messing with yer underworld!
And the worst part?? After I'd spent 45 minutes the night before shaving myself and when that started drawing blood, using the wifeys hair removal cream and nearly puking with the stink- the hair was falling out in clumps ,aarrghhhh......
Turned up at the surgery, upon me dropping my drawers to get on the gurney, the nurse, (neighbour to boot, who I see everyday) pointed at my bald eagle, (well, nearly bald- I'd created a cracking "mono eyebrow") (hell I'm stylish kinda guy!)... and laughed out loud............."HA, you don't need to do that anymore"!!

Now enough of this idle chitter chatter girls, off you pop, back into the kitchen...........................

Oh please, a one-time quick procedure versus several decades of having to spread your legs in front of strange people wielding cold steel instruments and scraping your insides with a spatula? Men are so darned delicate! :laugh

My husband had the snip done about a year ago. After popping the Valium the doctor gave him, he barely knew the 10-minute procedure even happening! (he doesn't remember the car ride home - I do, because he was smiling and babbling incoherently and it was highly entertaining)

So you can darn well pop into the kitchen and bring us some cold beers, thankyouverymuch! And some chocolate cake while you're at it! ;)

:cheers

Hi all :P

Wow what a response to my little question, its so nice to know I'm not the only one finding the whole thing an embarresment.! I don't normally put it off (honestly) it's just that as I am a student nurse who has just finished a placement which involved spending time with a practice nurse the dilemma of walking in to find a fellow student there and either having to say no you can't observe (which I hate when it happens to me) or risk running into them in the uni coffee bar was just too much for a girl !!. Just as well I posted this question too or else I would never have known that glitter and sparkles were the latest thing!!!!! :angel

Anyway on a more serious note I will be booking appt soon I promise!!
