Carrying on from the previous thread re what you can and can't take, anyone know the position on leather goods? :? I will be bringing some saddles, and the western ones have sheepskin on the underside. Obviously I'll clean them up, but I won't want to put any Jeyes fluid on them :no - if MAF did decide to fumigate them, would it harm them at all??? :? :eek

Hi, Dinnaefash,

I was led to believe the decontamination treatments used were not harmful to one's goods, but I have no way of knowing for sure. Here's a very useful link: http://www.maf.govt.nz/quarantine/personal-effects/index.htm

I would also suggest you contact MAF directly to ask them about the treatment (please post your findings so the rest of us can benefit from them!).. here's an e-mail address I've used before, although I can't find it posted on their website now: enquiry@maf.govt.nz

Would love to hear what you learn about it. My own contacts with them have been very fruitful, and they seem more than pleased to guide you through this process!

All the best, Rae
