Hi Everyone
Not posted for ages because I am so fed up with the Bl..dy housing market it has made me so depressed and down that I can see the dream going out the window.
We have to be in NZ by April 2006, So I would like to know if anyone has contacted NZ House to find out if PR can be extended, I need to know before I do anything desperate Had auction people round and thought about selling quick through investment company's but we risk losing a lot of money with both.
Not sure what to do next, spend each day in limbo and I am like a boiling kettle crying all the time and unsure what to do next.
Someone out there knows what I am going through and any positive feed back or help would may be lift what bit of self esteem I have left.
You think you have done all the hard work getting the PR in the first place then wallop you cant sell the house, I know that a lot of you are probabley going through this as well, I just wish we had sold before we applied for Visa it may have been a lot more simple but its all in hindsight now I just hope it's not to later.
A depressed Pamela xxxxx

Hi Pamela
Practically I'm not much help. Looks like you have looked at the avenues for selling and apart from 'house doctoring' and lowering the price
However, here are a few suggestions off the top of my head and forgive me if you have thought of them already......
Have you emailed your case officer to ask what would/could happen?
Have you thought about renting out the house and going to NZ that way, selling when the market is more bouyant? There are forumites that have done that. It may mean you are a bit unsettled at first house wise, but if a job offer is involved then it would be a shame to lose that. You would need to cover your mortgage and either get an agency or good friend or relly to help out.
Could you go separately if your OH has a job offer?
I can however understand how you feel though. We are waiting on PR and after all the work we did to get the application through it's driving me up the wall waiting. I have to sit on my hands not to check the NZIS site to see if our status has changed. Some days, I am in tears coz i think it will never happen. We have just had to agree to a rollover rental on the house we rent:wah although in reality we are likely to bite the bullet, pay the rent and leave. This may cost us money short term, but for our sanity, well worth it.
Forumites ( you know who you are :nice1 ) have put gary in touch with consultancies etc, but these things do take so long.
Pam, You've done a lot of hard work to get this far, don't forget that. Hindsight is a wonderful thing........NOT
Look forward. Right, what about any of the suggestions I made, any good?
Oh and chin up, remember the dream.

Hi Pamela
Can really relate to you. We've only just got PR, but we're really struggling with the house sale. We want to be in Christchurch by early January and are starting to despair a little about the house. We are in a very good area of Harrogate and the house is immaculate (done up from scratch last year - spent a fortune on it) but no-one seems to be moving at the moment. I have a baby due any day, but once it's born, we intend to really get on to the agent. We're planning on arranging an open day - also want them to put a better picture in the window etc. Is your agent doing enough for you? Could they advertise your house better? Sometimes you have to make a real pest of yourself to get things moving.
Sorry can't help out re extending PR (although may need to some day), but please don't give up on your house sale. You'll get there!
BTW, Deborah - going on the time scale of everyone else, I think you'll probably hear late next week from NZIS, so please don't get despondant - you'll be there before the rest of us - at least you don't have a house to sell!!!

Dont know if I am any help at all to you but I have had my job offer for a year and got PR in November and in that time the house fell through twice. First time there was supposed to be no chain they however had a shop which fell through. 2nd time they messed me around untill it got to the contract stage and day before decided they were not going to move. I have untill November to get over as my PR will be up then.
Things I have done are doing Feng Sui got a book on it.
De-cluttered
Put fresh flowers around
changed estate agent
Transformed the front garden and created extra parking for one car. Now could park 3 outside.
lowering the price
Painted everywhere white with neutral colured furnishings and curtains.
Hidden the pets away when people view
A friend suggested a really weired idea which is getting blue candles and lighting them in every room and then getting a white sage burning stick and waving it around each room. This is thought to get rid of negative energy. She also told me to get crystals and put them in each room. I thought it would be worth a try and have done it. I will let you know what happens as I did this recently. Mad or what you never know!

Thanks for you replies, You have to laugh but to- day had a call from one of these fast home sale sites and the offer was 50% Market vaule, laugh my reply was bye bye, Not that crazy, I am little nervy about contacting the case officer for fear of what she might say ???
Renting really do not want to do that would like to have a closure at this end,
All I think I can do is start praying and hope my someone anwsers them.
I have dropped price and had offers still have 2 on the table when they sell so fingers crossed,
By the way has anybody contacted case officer to get a visa extended if so what happened and how long did they give you.
Job offer is ok because it is with a family member it's the Visa that I am really worried about. I think the forum could all do with a big lottery win lol.
This place does cheer me up though so thanks.

Pam !!!!! Logged on this morning and read your post. I feel for you mate. My scars of house selling in the UK are still unhealed, I know exactly what you're going through. Sadly I can offer no advice, just a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear.
However, I'm pretty sure you won't be the first person who needs to extend their visa so your case officer will be able to steer you in the right direction.
Don't dispair mate, it WILL happen, your turn WILL come. After all ...... we still have a shopping date in Hamilton.
I say this next bit with confidence .......... SEE YOU SOON !!!!!!!!!
Chin up.

Write down all the worst things she could say. I mean really bad. As bad as you can possibly imagine. :wah
When you have got it all out of your head and on paper- ring them. Its never going to be as bad as you imagined. :nice1
Then treat yourself to a glass of wine / bar of chocolate / whatever!
Even if they cant extend your PR - you will at least KNOW where you stand, instead of running a mental list of Awful Outcomes that at the moment are driving you nuts.
Hope that helps!

Hi Pamela,
If your worried get in touch with NZIS, I asked for an extension on something else, I had a genuine reason for the delay (much like you), that I explained (via email). To be honest I expected NZIS to just say NO, pay more money and go back to square one, but that didn’t happen.
They were really really nice to me, and understood my predicament. They listened to what I had to say and not only did they grant me an extension, they also gave me contact details so that I could keep them up to date.
Don’t panic too much, you still have 8 months and if you have a problem (in my experience) NZIS are really reasonable. I’d give it another six months before I began to worry, then approach NZIS. I can only speak from my own experience, but I’ve honestly found them really decent, understanding and quite prepared to work with you on issues that pop up.
Good luck on the house sale

Good luck on the house sale, you never know you might sell it anytime soon.
We were waiting for our house to sell and Ian (the hubby) needed to go out as he had his job waiting for him. In the end we have rented the house out.
In 4 months of it being on the market we had 2 viewings and one of thoses admitted they had no intention of buying it.
We put the house up for rent on Thursday, by sunday we had 5 people interested with 2 firm offers. So for good size well kept rental houses there is demand.
Ideally we would still like to sell the house and it us still up for sale.

Oh dear Pamela, when i read this thread i thought for a moment i had posted it and not remembered. Everything you say echo's my entire feelings. The only difference is you have PR, whilst i have a work visa. Ok, my visa has 18 months to run, but it still doesn't make me feel any better as my future employer could so easily pull the plug on the offer(had it for 12 months) any time he so wishes.
Now our house has been on the market for just over 12 months and in that time we have had a few viewings and just 1 offer and the guy pulled out after 4 weeks. We have had 2 agents and both are as bad as each other, full of "yes we can sell it no problem" The problem is that we are just one of many vendors they have on their books and really they don't have our best interests at heart solely because they will get their fee as soon as this property sells. Ok, yes they have put possible purchasers through these doors, but i get fed up of hearing the same old crap coming from them. Rooms are to small, needs work doing on it, don't like your kitchen, bathroom etc. I am sorry but i live here and if they can't see beyond what we have and bring their own ideas in to this house then they are wasting my time, other vendors time, but most importantly their own. The price reflects that possible purchasers would like to make alterations. 12 months ago it was up for £150000, today its £135950 and we are prepared to take anything down to £130000. We have gone down the road of other alternatives. We contacted 2 company's, one was Home-Sell and the other Quick Sale and both made ridiculous offers, yes we are desperate but not on our arse's. We have contacted a auction agent by email, but as of now haven't heard from them.
As each day goes by i am losing time on the visa and offer, as each weekend goes by without viewings is another week lost. Its getting to the point where i am so down i am struggling to muster any energy to do anything. Only the other week i felt by thinking and feeling this way i was making myself ill. I have missed work and made my excuses, i don't have any pride left in the house, in fact it feels like a millstone around my neck.
Anyway Pamela, you are not on your own. Its seems quite a few of us are in the same predicament, but depending on the individual, its the coping mechanism that determines how each and everyone of us deals with it. Well i can quite catagorically say mine is shot to pieces at this moment. Keep your chin up lass, as things will happen when you are least expecting it.

After reading your post I have lump in throat, I so know where you are coming from, I to have looked at auction and it is silly they put property on market at about 30k less, which is a lot to lose, Only positive is that it is done and dusted in 28 Days.
The property market has to get better and help us all on here, I know what you mean about making you ill, I feel like I am on in a long tunnel and no light at the end, the positive mental attitude just goes out the Bl..dy window.
Nothing else seems to matter how sad is that god I need some happy pills don't I.
Kim all I can say is lets rub shoulders and wallop change of luck and all that.
Chin up to you too and lets hope next year we will all meet up over you know where and can have big old barby and drink up and laugh about all this. thinks have to get bad before they get better, so they say.
Jules I will pm you shortly and every one else who has posted thanks for you messages of support they make me feel so much better.
Thinking of you take care

Someone did ask me why we sold first and then come over...now I know why.
We had our house on the market for over a year before completion.
That done, we are now applying for work permit etc.
The housing market in the UK is in a real state.
It all depends on how long you have had your house and how much profit you are going to get from it.
When we sold ours I think we were really lucky and got what seems to be the top price before they started to fall - which they have! Our neighbours house house has a garage (ours did not) but is not shifting (same price).
In the UK it is a buyers market however, in NZ, it is a sellers market so beware.
Expect to take a slash in profit from your house sale in the UK unless you're willing to stick it out, if you can't stick it out then expect a reduction on the sale price.
Sorry but that's the way it's going.
